Below is a list of the best candidates for each role in my opinion.
Jean Valjean - Colm Wilkinson (10th Anniversary)
Uncle Kou is recognized as the best candidate for this role, and his voice is the most layered. However, on the 10th anniversary, his appearance is already old, and it is difficult to imagine how this appearance shocked Javert in the hospital. If you can match the image of Uncle Hugh when you are young, it will be perfect.
Uncle AB's 25th anniversary has the best vocal condition. After all, he was born in opera, but his acting skills are relatively average. As for Uncle Hugh, the young Jean Valjean is more suitable for him, and Bring him home, which can best reflect his singing skills, is obviously too difficult for him who is not a professional.
Javert--Norm Lewis (25th Anniversary)
In order to increase the drama, the rhythm of the arrangement of some tracks has been accelerated. And the black Javert is the beneficiary of this change, especially in the duet between the hospital and Uncle AB, its tit-for-tat effect is better than the other two versions.
The 10th anniversary Philip Quast is another interpretation of Javert. The reason for not choosing him is entirely personal preference. If you don't like it, don't spray it. As for the gladiator Javert, he just ignored it and wanted to be good at singing and not good at singing.
Marius - Michael Ball (10th Anniversary)
This role would have been more uncontroversial if it wasn't for the 10th anniversary, which has grown slightly. Small freckles may be more appropriate in the image, and the effect of empty chairs at empty tables is amazing. And the 25th anniversary, if it weren't for the selection of Nick Jonas, it wouldn't have attracted so many complaints.
Enjolras - Ramin Karimloo (25th Anniversary)
Ramen's charisma is not possessed by the other two versions of Enjolras, and they are indeed completely overshadowed by the same period Marius. And Nick was vomited so much, and it was thanks to the ramen to some extent. In the 25th Anniversary Bonus, the duet between Ramen and Uncle Qiu brought tears to the eyes. It must be the wish of many fans to let them perform together across time and space.
Epane - Samantha Barks (25th Anniversary & Movie)
I want to say no matter how many times I watch it, Lea Salonga has a beautiful voice and can't act. Although she played Epane already much better than Fantine 15 years later.
Fantine-Anne Hathaway (film)
moves the appearance of I dreamed a dream back in time and is definitely the most successful adaptation of the film version. Anne also completely lived up to the role.
The Thenardier couple - Matt Lucas & Jenny Galloway (25th anniversary)
The 10th anniversary image is the best, but the 25th anniversary version has more interaction between the couple and the overall scene is more active. As for the movie version, it feels overdone.
Cosette--Vacancy
No version of Cosette is satisfactory.
Gavroche -- Daniel Huttlestone (film)
That's the strength of the film. Give the kid enough room to express himself.
Little Cosette--Isabelle Allen (film)
This is also the film's strength. Little Cosette just needs an angelic face. As for how to sing is already second.
Bishop - Colm Wilkinson (movie)
As soon as Mr. Kou appeared, people were convinced that this was the saint who guided Jean Valjean on the right path.
