Torn Doom

Equilibrium is the name of a movie. The hero is cool and the action is dazzling. But the essence of this movie is definitely not his cool or dazzling. This is a good movie.

The story is very interesting, and it has a taste of Animal Farm in 1984. It is about the future after the war. There is a saying that human beings desire because of their emotions, and war because of their sins. In order to eliminate sin, we must eliminate desire and eliminate emotions. So the religious clergy became the supreme ruler of the country, and in the name of God, injected all people with an emotion-killing drug. Makes people into a kind of emotionless walking dead. The place is full of images and speeches of the father, and people act according to his words and instructions. The clergy led the army, constantly arresting those who did not want to be the walking dead, they were called emotional prisoners, and they would be thrown directly into the incinerator. Priests destroy everything related to human emotion: art, hobby items, books, even pets. However, there was a senior priest who secretly stopped the drug and discovered that emotion is the meaning of human existence, so he secretly joined the resistance organization to kill the father, the top leader of the priesthood. In the end, he found out that the father had already died. Now, the real leader is the head of the senior clergy. The head of the group uses virtual video speech to control people's thoughts and brainwash them. Before being killed, the head of the group told him to let him go. The reason is that the head of the group himself , Yes, the head of the regiment himself is an emotional prisoner, an emotional person. Naturally, he killed the head of the regiment and destroyed the propaganda center. The resistance group simultaneously blew up many factories producing drugs. The leader of the underground organization said this: Once the factory is destroyed, even for just one day, human nature will be destroyed. destroy this regime. And that's exactly what happened. The populace, out of control, rushed into the center of the clergy's rule.

The interesting thing about this movie is that it highly concentrates many characteristics of authoritarian society and presents it in front of the audience in a simplistic manner. For example, the word emotional crime always reminds me of thought prisoners. Brainwashing people with ubiquitous father images and speeches, destroying all human beings with cruel means, etc. Even the fact that the head of the clergy is actually one of the emotional ones made me smile. Dictators always make their people restrain humanity, they themselves never restrain any desire, eat as they please, as they want. Don't let others watch anything except a few designated programs, but watch everything yourself. Among them, I know such a guy who forbids his people to watch Western movies, but organizes a special translation team to translate various foreign movies for him.

The awakened senior priest caught a female prisoner before he stopped taking the drug. The prisoner asked him why he was alive. He thought about it and seemed unable to answer, and reluctantly replied: He lives to serve the father and let this great society continue. After the answer, it is estimated that even he himself felt ridiculous.

Why live? Is it for things like pleasure, duty, wealth, power? Then you can get the answer even if you don't live. What's more, there are also "what can I do?" questions that I can't answer myself. A friend sent me a short message last night saying that she hates herself very much now, hates herself very much. I congratulated her then. Disgusting yourself is the prelude to finding yourself. Of course, some people are completely lost, and some people find the true meaning of life. There are two words that can be expressed in English, living and life. The former is just to live, while the latter is to live. The meaning of life lies in life itself, emotion, expression, feeling, and discovering the interdependence between man and the universe.

Equilibrium quotes

  • John Preston: When we return from the Nether it always reminds me of why we do what we do.

    Partridge: It does?

John Preston: [pauses; He takes notice of Partridge's intonation] I beg your pardon?

Partridge: [Withdraws Prozium-administering device from his pocket and injects himself with it] It does.

  • Polygraph Technician: This is a control question, a riddle really. How would you say would be the easiest way to take a weapon away from a Grammaton Cleric?

Brandt: [speaks into Preston's ear] You ask him for it.
