Homeland is a show about idea.
When Brody explained his further plan to Abu Nazir, the latter said 'Why kill a man when you can kill an idea'?
The idea that protecting one's homeland justifies killing other countries' people was killed after Brody's witnessing 82 children's deaths. The idea of protecting one's homeland without hurting its own people was also killed. Moreover, the idea of not being able to hug and kiss his wife before his last goodbye to her and of disappointing his loving daughter and lying in her face and destroying her hope is also tremendously influential and hurting to Brody, which lead to his final decision-making.
Homeland is a show about trust.
Brody asked Carrie to trust his innocence. Carrie begged Virgil to be on her side when all the people were seemed to against her and thought she was mad. The daughter asked her father to come back home safe and sound and required him to make a promise , so that her trust in him can assure herself of his safety and righteousness. Carrie's final decision showed her collapsed trust in herself, for all her theories were proven not right. When Saul told she that she was right in terms of Nazir's mourning period, her short relief was moving and heartbreaking.
Homeland is a show about remembrance.
Nazir urged Brody to carry on his task by reminding him of the death of Isaar; Carrie's initial doubt about Brody was based on her memory of the words of a prisoner in Baghdad. In the end, after been proved to be 'wrong' and mad in every deeds, Carrie strove to kill her 'wrong' memory of her accusations of Brody. Yet in the last several seconds, she remembered the important clue before been put into coma. The documents of deaths of 82 innocent children were vaporized. Yet, these evil under the sun is to be remembered by Brody. Remembrance is the key of all the revenges.
Homeland is a show of Claire Danes.
Claire Danes showed her exquisiteness in her teen-work My So-called Life, and her quaintness in Temple Grandin, and both characteristics were combined and displayed perfectly in Homeland.
I found no hard calling her Carrie after only one episode. And I couldn't imagine other actresses more suitable for this role. Claire displayed the restless state of mind of a bipolar disorder patient, the wit and an assiduous working attitude of a CIA inspector , and the vulnerability of a woman. She is a true genius of TV drama. Even in such skinny shape, she is still charming; I couldn't take my eyes off her.
