Finally, the samurai leader looked at the graves of his four companions and said, "We still lost the battle. Farmers are the winners. This sentence implies the inevitable demise of the samurai class. Although they are powerful, they are not as savvy as the peasants. Those who were left alone were killed by farmers, and those who gathered were invited by farmers to work hard. Even the most powerful samurai cannot escape the fate of death.
Let's start with the most powerful Kuzang. Kuzang has high martial arts skills and is typical of samurai. He doesn't bully the weak, he has a benevolent heart. His purpose is to pursue the ultimate samurai honor - strong, brave, low-key, famous. He basically did it all. He is extremely powerful and can kill many enemies in an instant; he is brave and dares to break into the enemy camp alone; he is low-key, he does not claim credit and does not brag about it, but rests at the same time; he is famous, he can easily make contributions, and he grabs a musket . And his ending is also the honorable ending of a samurai—death in battle. It can be said that this role exists to interpret the ultimate samurai. However, the ultimate warrior can only be short-lived. Even if he has noble character and invincible technology, he can't escape the musket of death. This is not only embarrassing, but also makes people feel that the value of the samurai is too low. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why the samurai finally perished.
Then there is Kikuchiyo, who aspires to be a samurai. This is a rather neurotic character, and it is so similar to the character of the robber in "Rashomon" that he played, it really makes people wonder if the two are the same person. But Kikuchiyo was a farmer, the son of a farmer. In the face of the attack of the bandits, the family was destroyed, and he was the only survivor in the end. So he refused to be a peasant any more, but a samurai. As a samurai, you can not only take revenge, but also become powerful and will not be bullied again. He ditched his name, stole a samurai genealogy and pretended to be one of them. Although this character gives the first impression of being crazy, clumsy, lustful and frivolous, he uses these so-called masks to hide his true heart. He is a humble, miserable man. He wanted to be a samurai, so he challenged the leader Kanbei as soon as he appeared, because the other party revealed the identity of a senior samurai. When looking at the other party, his subtext seemed to be: "You are a samurai? Yes, so am I." Kanbei seemed to see what he was thinking, and asked him directly: "Are you also a samurai?" This sentence directly pokes To his inner conflict - although he was a farmer, he wanted to become a samurai. So he put his sword on the ground vigorously and shouted, "Of course!" Who knows, Kanbei saw his true nature, asked "Really?" and left. Kikuchiyo found that he had been pierced, and became angry, so he kicked the soil and smashed water from behind. Kikuchiyo's motivation for following the samurai group was to prove that he was a samurai, or in other words, to make himself a samurai. Later, in the words of the young samurai's adoration for Kuzo, he felt a sense of jealousy. He wants to say that this kind of thing, this kind of gong, he can also accomplish. So he immediately broke into the enemy camp to prove it. He did, but the team leader didn't appreciate it. Because, he left without permission, which indirectly led to the success of the enemy's sneak attack and the death of his companions. From here, it seems that he is getting further and further away from being a samurai. But otherwise, Kikuchiyo eventually became a samurai. He had a benevolent heart and dared to sacrifice his life to save people in the hut; then, he also cherished righteousness, and he was sad and ashamed after his companion died because of his mistake. Not only that, but he also possesses the most valuable courage. He was shot with a musket, but instead of falling, he gritted his teeth and moved forward until he killed the enemy. So, his companions recognized him. His grave is alongside the other samurai, and like them, there is a katana in it.
Then there are the young warriors. The old warriors were deliberately protecting him. He symbolizes the future of the samurai class. He is really a humble young man, first of all he was convinced by Kanbei and wanted to worship him as his teacher. Immediately, Tie Xin wanted to join the samurai team. Then he was impressed by Kuzang again. But what he lacks is composure, a quality that really takes years of experience to form. As soon as he saw the beautiful peasant girl, he fell in love with her and fell in love with her. Often want to take risks and seek merit, to prove their virtues of the samurai. On the eve of the decisive battle, he failed to control himself and had an affair with a girl. After Kuzo and Kikuchiyo died, he desperately wanted to avenge his comrades. However, the enemies are all dead. His blood had nowhere to sway, and he could only end it sadly. Even at the end, when he met the peasant girl again, he never spoke to her again. That combination seemed to be just a one-night stand. The gap between the two classes was something that he, a samurai, could not bridge. In other words, after this war, both he and the girl have grown from young people who indulge their desires to "adults" who obey the rules of the class. The calm they have learned is to go their own way. This has to be said to be a growing irony.
But even so, the children of young warriors and peasant girls will still be peasants. The warrior sacrifices his life for justice, while the peasant tries to steal his life. In the end, it is not the lofty, benevolent and righteous warrior who takes the lead, but the coward who is careful and selfish. And there are more cowards, and the brave gradually become extinct. This is the ultimate fate of the samurai.
