The film has produced suspense, and Li Ji's psychological shadow is a suspense, and suspense is a means of making the viewers continue to watch. This film proves that the setting of suspense is not successful, and when the suspense is solved, the impact of the plot is extremely strong.
Now I would like to make my own analysis of some of the scenes in the film:
Li Ji's wife was at the thief's residence, Li Ji rushed over, but her wife rushed into the burning house. Instead of choosing to reunite with her husband, she rushed into the fire and chose to die. This should be a reflection of the Japanese view of chastity for women. Japan and China are both countries that have experienced feudal society. It is only natural for a wife to be loyal to her husband. If she makes peace with another man while her husband is alive, she should commit suicide. This is also reflected in Kurosawa's "Rashomon". Her final choice to die is a kind of helplessness, a kind of fear, what is she afraid of? What I am afraid of is this kind of feudal system that is close to unreasonable. She would rather understand herself than live with this psychological burden. Moreover, Li Ji may not be able to accept the return of his wife.
When Kikuchiyo brought some of the equipment of the deserted samurai to everyone, he received ridicule from several other samurai. Kikuchiyo said that he didn't trust farmers. In fact, farmers have everything. They are some of the most cunning people. Kikuchiyo is a complex image, a real symbol. He was born as a peasant, and he once said to these samurai: "Do you know why peasants are so cunning?! It's because of you! It's because of you samurai! It's all good deeds by you!" This sentence is the true voice of the peasants, and the peasants today are all caused by war. Later, when Kikuchiyo burst into tears while holding a baby in her arms, I learned of his background - it turned out that Kikuchiyo was also an orphan. This can't help but be moved, a man with a crazy appearance is so innocent, righteous, brave, and persistent. Gave me a new understanding of samurai. A samurai is also a person. Beneath their ruthless swords, there is a heart that is the same as that of ordinary people. They can also joke, feel sad, and like to be praised, but their identity as a samurai is doomed to their fate in life. ——They have become real killing machines, tools of rulers, so the end of the life journey of the samurai can only be death and being killed by other tools. And the peasants (the people) continue to work and thrive. "Peasants and samurai can never be combined." This sentence is rational. In this violent society, people are constantly escaping killing, and it is impossible to approach it.
Akira Kurosawa is full of masculinity, the war scenes are thrilling, the camera moves, the editing is very dynamic. It shows some of the "tactical literacy" of the director himself. The battlefield is fierce but there are no bloody scenes, and the impact is not reduced. The spiritual lens of the film is used many times, which can make the viewer seem to be in it. Akira Kurosawa is indeed a master of Japanese film.
