Three relationships, four men, seen from the point of view of a genius girl.
Rule 1: You must not be worse than her. Otherwise, you are weak and unworthy.
Harry was too nervous to see Harmon after 5 years. I initially thought that was the normal behavior of an introverted boy living in a goddess house. Finally think about it not. When Harry played chess with Harmon for the first time, he was deliberately late and grinned, fierce and arrogant! So why did you completely change after 5 years? Well, that's the normal gesture of a loser. It's okay to lose, but it really hurts confidence. When Harmon found out that Harry knew she was on drugs, Harmon was ready to approach Harry (and made breakfast for Harry the next morning). But Harry carried the suitcase and said he was going to study electrical engineering. If he had faith, or could accept his own words, he could live forever and be with the goddess. But he didn't. He's a loser, he's never beat Harmon once, he's just a coward.
In fact, Harmon never took Harry seriously. I will not elaborate on the attitude of the two after the sex. In fact, what impressed me more was that after Harmon lost in Paris, Harry called her. When Harmon heard that Harry was calling himself Beth, he threw the phone away. Also, Harry's touching emotional reassurance at the door of the high school, in exchange for Jolene knocking on the door (Harmon thought it was Harry), Harmon said "Can you please stop being annoying". Harry mistakenly thought that Harmon lost the same chess game as himself, and needed people to be with him and to be comforted. But sorry, Harmon was not the same as Harry.
Rule 2: At least you have to win the goddess once or twice. Otherwise, how can you be confident.
Look at Benny again. In any case, the first game, and the later quick chess games, all beat Harmon to the ground. This is a man who has beaten Harmon many times. So when Benny proposed to be Harmon's teacher, Harmon was willing to go to New York with him, and he was willing to sleep on an air bed in the living room in the basement (not sleeping in a house the size of Kentucky). It wasn't all because Benny beat Harmon. But Benny can catch Harmon's shortcomings and is a real person who can help Harmon improve. It is also because he has won many times, and also with Benny's own character, after Benny lost to Harmon for the first time, he can calmly admit his defeat (this Harry can't do it).
Insert a section, take a chestnut. When Harry came to Harmon's house with a box of books, but Harmon said they had read it too, those had read it. Technically speaking, Harry couldn't help Harmon. That's why after Harmon lost to Borgov, Harry chose to take the route of emotional comfort, because he was already exhausted. But Benny could figure out Harmon's bad habit of reading without footnotes. In fact, before this, Benny has already said a lot of Harmon's shortcomings, but this paragraph, I remember it more clearly.
Benny could help Harmon technically, no doubt about it. When the two play chess while driving, I think they are a natural match! When Harmon discovered the huge difference between Benny's spiritual world and the material world (living in the worst house, being on the cover of the best magazine) and willingly inflating his air bed, I thought, these two are soulmates. ! Finally someone can hold back the genius girl! This should be a very perfect pair of CPs.
Oops, I was wrong. If the feelings of a talented girl were so simple, she would not be one of the few geniuses in the world.
The two have different values. Harmon gave up her Christian sponsorship because she didn't want to preach, but Benny said it was a silly thing for Harmon to give up her sponsorship, and scolded it fiercely. So Benny is someone who can go for money without caring about his position/belief. This is so different from our stubborn genius girl. And when Benny didn't want to lend Harmon money to play in Moscow, I found out that Benny might be really immature, selfish, and unstable.
Rule 3: Watch your fate (as well as appearance, height, and temperament).
So, to attract talented girls, do you need superb chess skills and consistent three views? Haha, I haven't said the first Townes to appear. This is the first male lead in the show. His chess skills should be the worst among the three male protagonists. But who made him the one standing next to Harmon when Harmon first went to the game. With the right time and the right place and good looks, height and temperament, Townes became Harmon's first love. This really explains, when Townes shows up in Moscow, Harmon can dash up to give a bear hug. She and Harry, and Benny, just fuck. But Harmon had never responded so strongly to a boy, except Townes. Maybe first love is really important. You don't need to be skilled at chess, and you don't need to have the same three views. You just show up in that moment.
But is there anything sadder than a straight girl's first love being gay?
Finally, you have to be strong enough to keep her out of reach.
There are too many accidental factors needed to become the first love of a gifted girl. What should you do if you miss the opportunity to become the first love of a gifted girl? There is also a man in the show, although he has no relationship with Harmon, but this man is the one that Harmon is most devoted to: Borgov. Harmon actually went to learn Russian for Borgov. In the end, it did show that knowing Russian helped her a lot, whether it was hearing their evaluations in the elevator or overhearing them playing chess in the hotel. Borgov was the one who completely caught Harmon's attention. Therefore, if a boy can ruthlessly roll over a talented girl technically, (if it is not too ugly, too short, and the three views are too distorted), there is still hope that he will be admired by the gifted girl.
PS. My tears are actually friendship lines . I burst into tears when Jolene said Harmon was her all. While still in the orphanage, Jolene said, as long as you nod your head obediently and agree to everything, you can be taken away. Harmon said a sorry, Jolene asked, why sorry, Harmon said, sorry for you. So sad. Jolene knew how to please others, and did so, but still couldn't be taken away. Because she is black. So when Jolene appeared again, he was very capable and had ideas, and he had a very clear plan for his future. I also thought about what supported her, a person of color, to break through many difficulties and achieve these achievements in that era. It turned out to be Harmon. It was Harmon's publication time and time again, giving her hope and motivation, and setting an example for her. Therefore, the best role models for people are not necessarily giants, thinkers, and scientists from a distant era. The best role models and sources of motivation are the peers around you. This is one of the reasons why we go to a good school to study. Your peers are by your side, and they will affect you subtly and subtly. So, students, work hard to study in a good school! Then you will meet excellent peers, and in that environment, you will gradually become better!
(It's been two weeks since I watched this drama. I wrote this in my spare time, and I just wanted to post it soon, so that I can finally calm down and do my homework.)
