Carl's previous rejection of everything was perhaps a bit extreme. But looking around us, a friend's positive invitation may be turned down a few times, and even some people who don't like it will not hesitate to find a reason to refuse. If we make the decision of the bank to lend, we will doubt the ability of the other party to repay the loan, and will not hesitate to print "decline" on the paper.
