"The Island": a typical low-budget suspense horror movie

"The Others" was released in 2001. It is impeccable in terms of plot design and actors' acting skills. It can be regarded as a model and benchmark for psychological suspense thrillers. As a low-budget movie (the entire movie is almost nothing but the interior of the big house, plus a little foggy scene), it grossed $200 million at the box office. This film has no special effects of dazzling skills. It mainly relies on the advancement of the plot, the scenes and the faint background music to set off the atmosphere, and relies on the wonderful acting skills of the leading actors in silence to set off the appearance of horror and terror.

The script of this film is very creative, which makes people gradually deepen in the slowly advancing plot, and finally reveals the mystery, which makes people suddenly realize, sigh and admire the creativity and logical conception ability of the screenwriter and director.

What we fear may be ourselves, what we avoid may be the truth

Finally, I quote Bian Zhilin's "Broken Chapter": You look at the scenery on the bridge, and the people who look at the scenery look at you on the bridge. The bright moon decorates your windows, you decorate other people's dreams.

The light leaked in like water. This house is like a sunken ship. Nicole Kidman's performance is very good, her face seems to be condensed, and the face of the housekeeper reveals too much drama, which I don't like.

In fact, everyone has fear and moving, the kind of helpless and confused loneliness, but some people hide it in their hearts. The living must learn to live peacefully with the dead, and learn to accept those uninvited guests~

The Others quotes

  • Grace: [regarding Lydia] Was she born like that?

Mrs. Mills: Beg your pardon, ma'am?

Grace: The girl. Was she born a mute?

    Mrs. Mills: No.

    [looks uncomfortable]

Mrs. Mills: I think I've finished here, ma'am. If you'll excuse me, I think I'll go and see if Mr. Tuttle needs a hand.

  • Charles: [enters Anne and Nicholas' bedroom]

    [quietly]

Charles: How are my little ones?

    Anne: [excited] Daddy!

    [she hugs Charles]

Anne: Why did you take so long?

Charles: [smiles when he sees Nicholas] Hello Nicholas.

    [Nicholas hugs him]

Anne: [to Nicholas] I told you, you see! I told you he'd come back!

Charles: [as he hugs the children] Have you both been well-behaved?

    Anne: We've been very good.

Charles: Have you been good to your Mother?

Nicholas: Very good. We study every day for our First Communion.

Anne: [pauses] Daddy, did you kill anyone?
