If you disassemble the novel and read these 6 stories alone, except for the artificial human story, which is slightly new, the other 5 stories are quite boring. The original function connects the stories with a special structure, and sublimates by refining the unified theme, making the scattered 6 stories into an organic whole. This is also the most appreciated advantage of the original. In the movie, this advantage suddenly becomes an irreparable defect.
Obviously, the 6 stories are completely different in style, spanning at least 3 completely different movie genres, and for a commercial movie, it is very important to maintain style consistency, and to cut several completely different types of movies It is a taboo that even elementary school students will not commit, but filmmakers have to challenge this impossibility. You can compare the "Tower of Babel" with a similar structure, except that the Japanese JK is slightly unique, the atmosphere and expression of several stories are the same, even so, it still looks high and low.
Novel readers have long been accustomed to all kinds of strange literary experiments, such as "Winter's Night", "Ulysses", "JDC" (huh). And with Nolan's past performance, he would fail 100% of the time when he came to shoot the cloud map.
