Six simple stories, compiled into a cloud map. Under the intricate appearance, in fact, each planet is connected and has its own rules.
Character diagrams have been written before, and they are quite detailed. Even if you haven't seen it, the movie ends with a list of all the roles that each actor plays. The audience sees it at a glance. So, in this review, what I want to say is not the relationship between the characters, but the reincarnation.
The first and fifth stories are a reincarnation of fate. In 1849, Adam, a young lawyer who had just gotten married, was almost killed by a doctor who was trying to make money while sailing on the sea. The one who saved him was a black slave. Once the grace of a meal, let the black slave guard the lawyer day and night, and finally saved the lawyer's life. Because of this, the lawyer advocated the abolition of slavery and broke with his father-in-law. The wife supports her husband's decision and leaves the country with her husband. It's a happy ending. But the couple betrayed their father's trust and love. All this is to be paid back. The fifth story takes place in the era of mass production of clones in the future. The young rebels fled with clone Somni451 and organized a rebel army. Despite fighting hard, it ended in death. In the war to pacify the rebellion, the leader of the government army is precisely the father-in-law in the first story. The rebel youth and Somni451 are the son-in-law and daughter of the previous life. The happiness of the past life must end with the tragedy of the present life. This is the punishment for the father's betrayal. According to Chinese thinking, this is the compensation for the grievances and grievances of the previous life.
The third and sixth stories are a reincarnation of love. In San Francisco in the 1970s, journalist Louis investigates the shady history of oil companies. An in-company scientist was silenced to help her. It was love at first sight. On the roof of the building at dusk, Louis was smoking a cigarette, and the scientist was by her side. After a simple conversation, I fell in love with her. Because death has no follow-up fate. The time has come many, many years later, when the world has been destroyed and mankind has returned to barbarism. The descendants of the scientist and their sister and niece live in tribes deep in the island. The prophet who appeared lightly and met unexpectedly, she was the reincarnation of Louis. After going through hardships, the two finally came together and lived together for the rest of their lives. Similarly, according to the Chinese people's thinking, this is a marriage that was broken in a previous life, and it must be continued in a certain future life until it is finally married.
The second and fourth stories should actually echo. But because the emotions in this are all wrong, I think this is a reincarnation that has ended. At the beginning of the 20th century, the young composer Robert worked for the famous composers of the time. Robert may appear to be a promiscuous bisexual, but only because he is more passionate about art than anyone else. His admiration for the old composer was based on what he believed to be the real two people's common ideal of art. But the bad old man only wanted to take Robert's work as his own. During the quarrel, Robert killed the old composer by mistake. In the final hours, Robert completed a work called "Cloud Atlas Sextet". One sunset, in the bathroom, Robert shot himself. It was Rufus, the scholar who really loved him, who was crying bitterly while holding the corpse. In the fourth story, the old composer is reincarnated as a writer, and his sister-in-law (note, a female~~~) is Robert's reincarnation. They reunited in this way, but only to say hello and smile from a distance. Rufus has kept Robert's letters, and in the third story, the elderly Rufus was killed as an oil company scientist to help reporter Louis. Also in the third story, Robert's reincarnation is an old record store owner who is madly in love with the song "Cloud Atlas Sextet". But they haven't seen each other, and in this life and in the next life, they have nothing to do with each other. The people in these two stories show that you love me, but I love him. The wrongly intertwined emotions are gradually broken through reincarnation.
In every reincarnation of life, although you cannot carry memories, you will always have an inexplicable feeling for a certain character in a certain scene in front of you. Then you'll say, "Hey, I think I've seen you before!" or "I think I've been here before!" People often say that this is the memory of reincarnation. It's like a formatted disc, but there is still residual data, vague, fragmented, and fleeting. But these residual data are the nodes that weave the three-dimensional cloud map of time and space, which are interrelated and interdependent.
PS: Many people have said this film is difficult to understand before. wrong! Blunder! The story is simple and the context is clear. After reading it, my friend said to me, I feel very "The Matrix"~~~ Yeah. The same director has the same ideology. After so many years, I still like to play the trick of reincarnation. hee hee~
