The OC and the ten songs in it

Recently I restarted watching the OC, an American drama that started in 2003 and ended in 2007. I started watching it when I was in junior high school. At that time, I watched the version of Pearl TV. After watching the first and second seasons, I watched the third season intermittently (until Marissa Cooper died), and then I didn't watch it much. However, in the last few days, I regained this American drama that has been deeply buried in my heart for many years, and watched a total of 92 episodes of the four seasons.
In the past few years, I have also watched several TV series of the same type, such as the recently very hot Gossip Girl and the 90210 which just finished the season, the very aggressive Skins, the novel but incompetent South Of Nowhere, and the mindless Priviliged. ...After spending so much time, I still think the OC and Skins are better. Although both Gossip Girl and the OC are works of Josh Schwartz, the OC has laid a framework for future TV series of this type, and Gossip Girl is just a work under such a framework. Besides, I feel that Josh Schwartz put more emotion in the OC: Josh himself is a Jew, just like the family of The Cohens in the OC. His love for Indie Rock and Brit Pop is entirely in the characters Seth and the OC in the play. It is reflected in the soundtrack of the OC, and Josh is from Rholde Island and was educated in California. This background makes him set the background of the OC reasonably. However, Gossip Girl, you can see the shadow of the OC anytime and anywhere, but obviously Josh Schwartz's feelings for Gossip Girl are much weaker. Of course, Gossip Girl can be regarded as an excellent TV series. As for Skins, the OC and Skins are actually not comparable. But Skins's screenwriter has mentioned the influence of the OC on him more than once. It can be seen that the OC can be said to be the originator of this type of TV series.
It is undeniable that the OC has been going downhill, from the first season to the fourth season, the ratings have been declining. Although the screenwriters tried their best to reverse this decline and continue to add new elements, the OC ended in 2007. However, the eternal picture of the OC-California's sunshine still makes many people sigh (like me, completely hypocritical), and attracts many people to ignite their enthusiasm for California.
In The OC, Marissa Cooper is the most controversial and most breathtaking character. I saw the OC because of the beauty of Mischa Barton and the attractiveness of Marissa Cooper. As the show continues to deepen, until now, my favorite characters have become Seth Cohen, Summer Roberts, Julie Cooper, and Sandy Cohen. The ending is beautiful, a warm and happy ending that is rarely seen in American dramas. The TV series is over, but the OC still continues. This kind of plot should be a deeply rooted effect of California sunshine.
The soundtrack of this show is very good, which is unmatched by other TV shows (except Skins). Compared to 90210 and Gossip Girl who use the latest songs and a lot of saliva songs (I used to listen to Coldplay in 90210 and almost vomit and spoil the good songs), the OC uses a lot of classic old songs and well-known songs. And the unknown Indie Rock and Brit Pop, and the songs are very in line with the plot. The rising star Skins also borrowed the experience of the OC in this regard, and used a lot of different styles of soundtracks more adventurously. The musical tastes of the characters in The OC play are also very distinctive, from which you can also get a glimpse of the character’s personality: Ryan Atwood doesn’t like music very much but likes the old band Journey, Seth Cohen is a complete Indie Rock fan (especially like Death Cab For Cutie And Rooney), Marissa Cooper is a sweet outside, but she likes "real Punk" in her heart. Old Punk such as Sex Pistols and the Clash (I like it too). Sandy Cohen is a lawyer who likes to sing Jazz in her spare time, Julie Cooper. I like the metal bands of the 1980s (very contemporary)...I have never seen a TV show where the characters have such a distinct musical preference. The OC has released 6 Soundtracks for this and collected some of the soundtracks. Among the six OSTs, four are purely included soundtracks, one is a Christmas Hanukkah (Chrismukkah) song (which contains my favorite Low and Christmas songs by the Eels, Rooney, Jimmy Eat World), and One is a cover song. It is indeed difficult to choose ten songs among so many songs. Moreover, combined with the scenes, ten songs are more difficult to choose. However, writing these songs and the moving scenes can be regarded as an eternal memorial to the OC.
1.Phantom Planet's California
Many people like this TV show just because of this California. When the OC didn't choose the theme song at first, Josh heard the song accidentally one day before he decided to choose this song as the theme song. Although Phantom Planet did not write this song specifically for the OC, California best reflects the theme of the OC. Phantom Planet re-arranged the song into California 2005 in 2005, but the original version is still the most popular. This song always appears in the most important scene. Although Phantom Planet's subsequent works can no longer surpass the California song, at least the OC has brought them unexpected fame.
2. Forever Young of Youth Group is a
song belonging to Marissa and Ryan. This song appeared twice in the third season. The first appearance was when Marissa decided that there should be a song between her and Ryan that belonged to them. When Marissa pressed the radio for the first time, it was a very noisy Hip Hop song. Then Marissa and Ryan said no immediately. When Marissa pressed the radio for the second time, this Forever Young cover by Youth Group became their song. The second time this song appeared was when Marissa died. Forever Young is the wish of Marissa and Ryan, but now only Ryan is left alone holding Marissa's body and walking helplessly. This song is indeed the best testimony of Marissa and Ryan. It's a pity that these two people are torturing each other together, and the screenwriter Josh is really abusive.
3. Champagne Supernova by Matt Pond PA
This song was originally sung by Oasis, but I don't know why the OC uses Matt Pond PA's version (it seems that Matt Pond PA is a cover for the OC and dedicated to the OC). As a big fan of Oasis (not to mention...), I stubbornly believe that Oasis's version is 10,000 times better than Matt Pond PA's. This song appears in the famous Spider-Man Upside Down Golden Hook-Seth and Summer kissing under the rare Southern California rain. Champagne Supernova is Oasis's 1996 Morning Glory (What's the Story?)? The work itself is a song of more than 7 minutes long with the sound of rain as the background. I have to say that this song is a perfect match for this famous scene. Whenever I hear Oasis’ Champagne Supernova, I think of Seth and Summer, the cutest couple.
4. Paranoid Android by Sia
is another cover song. The original song is Radiohead (I am not too cold with Radiohead, but I like Pablo Honey, the Bends and OK Computer very much), and the Sia version appeared on a tribute album to Radiohead. This version is not too much change, just sung by Sia. In the OC, this song appeared in the most dramatic episode of the fourth season of poor reputation. In this episode, Ryan and Taylor broke their heads and accidentally entered a parallel space and discovered that Ryan's appearance actually made Marissa live another three years. Among them, at the airport, Ryan saw a man wearing a pink Berkerley sweater and thought she was Marissa. The famous interlude of Paranoid Android sounded. Accompanied by the music, Ryan discovered that it was just Marissa's sister Kaitlin. Finally, Ryan accepted the fact that Marissa had left and started again with Taylor. This song is not the most used, but in this episode, Paranoid Android is the best choice.
5. South's Paint The Silence
I haven't heard South's songs very much, and I don't know much about South. This song appeared twice in the OC (maybe more than one). The prelude is the guitar flicking, and then a male voice goes straight to the subject. Among Marissa's "music education" to Ryan, this song Paint The Silence is Marissa's favorite. Among the CDs that Marissa burned for Ryan, the first is Paint The Silence, which is very Indie very Dream Pop. This song witnessed how Ryan got to know Marissa in the first place, and also witnessed the separation and reunion between Marissa and Ryan.
6. Running Up That Hill of
Placebo heard Placebo in the OC is something I never imagined (I love Placebo so much). Pretend to say: Placebo is such an Alternative Rock, and Brian Molko is such a "demon", is it appropriate to appear in the OC? Unexpectedly, this song "Running Up That Hill" (originally sung as Kate Bush) appeared in the darkest episode of the OC: the first episode of the fourth season. Although the pretentious and deliberately imitating the plot of "Fight Club" brings a lot of strange feelings, this cold keyboard of Running Up That Hill has brought a lot of surprises to this episode with Brian Molko's unsentimental voice—— The OC can also be so Alternative. Moreover, the lyrics of this song are very suitable for Ryan's mood: if he can deal with God, he will return to Marissa Cooper. The remixed version of Datassette is recommended here.
7. Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley
This song is originally sung by Leonard Cohen, and the content is derived from the story in the "Bible". Among so many versions, perhaps due to preconceived relations, Jeff Buckley's version is my favorite. The OC chose Jeff Buckley's version. Jeff Buckley's voice is very beautiful, but it's a pity that he died young. In the first season of The OC, when Ryan left, it was this song. Then I forgot that in that episode, Hallelujah also appeared once. It can be said that whenever Hallelujah thinks about it, it means leaving.
8. Last Christmas by Jimmy Eat World
is a Wham! (Mighty! Haha...) song, and it has been covered by many, many people, including Hilary Duff and the like. But Jimmy Eat World's cover of this song is reasonable and unexpected. In the eyes of Indie Fan like Seth Cohen, what is more suitable for his own Chrismukkah than the cover of Last Christmas by Jimmy Eat World? In The OC, Seth is happiest than preparing for a festival like Chrismukkah that combines Christianity and Judaism. Of course, watching the people in the OC prepare for Christmas is also a happy thing, even though the people in the OC have to toss about something every Christmas.
9. Kreuzberg of Bloc Party
The OC used several Bloc Party songs: Bandquet, I Still Remember, Blue Lights and Kreuzberg. Every time Bloc Party is used, something big always happens. Of course I am very happy to listen because Bloc Party is considered my favorite band (except the Libertines). This song appeared at the end of the 15th episode of the fourth season. After the earthquake, Dajia gathered together in the hospital. Of course no one was seriously injured, and everyone felt differently from the earthquake. In the end, a lot of people ended the episode gratefully. To be honest, the OC's Bloc Party song is not because the lyrics fit the scene, but more because the guitar riff and drum beats of the Bloc Party fit the mood. But the last sentence of the song tells the theme of the episode.
10. Super Furry Animals and Syd Matters' Hello Sunshine
Hello Sunshine is a familiar song. In the first and second seasons, there were more versions of Super Furry Animals. In the fourth season, when Seth picked up his Little Miss Sunshine-Summer at the airport, it was this song that rang. California sunshine is the true protagonist of the OC, and close-ups of California sunshine appear in almost every episode. In this way, Hello Sunshine is the theme song behind the OC.
Before I knew it, I wrote so long. Whenever I recall a song, I think of the classic scenes and small details in the OC. Of course, there are many great songs in the OC. However, this drama has ended forever and ever. I hope that after a few years, whenever I hear these songs, the OC can immediately appear in my mind.
