"The Magician": Conspiracy and Conspiracy

The same work by Neil Berg, the "Divergent" written in the last film review was chewy, and this "Magician" is obviously much more fascinating. Even more than ten years after the film was released, it still reminds me of the past and the new.

In 2006, two movies about magic came out successively, one was "The Magician" by Neil Borg and the other was "Deadly Magic" by Christopher Nolan. The themes of the two are similar, and they also use the method of "seeing is not necessarily believing" to create suspense. However, the focus is quite different. What Nolan wants to reveal is that the demons make people go on the road of crime, while what Borg expresses is the life of love that transcends the mundane.

To put it bluntly, the love story of "The Magician" is a "love triangle", in which the Austrian prince and the magician compete for a Hungarian duchess, but the disparity between the two male contestants and how the magician finally wins provides the film with considerable tension.

In this competition, it should be said that the prince and the magician have their own advantages. The former holds a prominent position and holds great power, and can directly command the "police", the violent machine. The advantage of the latter is that the Duchess has been acquainted since childhood, childhood sweethearts, and the hazy love has been established at that time, and the delicate and ingenious pendant is enough to settle the love.

In fact, if the prince is thick enough and black enough to have the ability and opportunity to physically destroy his opponent, fall off his horse, drown, or take poison, why can't he find it? However, it is obvious that he can be crushed by strength, but he has to fight for charm, not to mention that he "uses" the Duchess more than "love" it has long been known by passersby. There is no true love, and the second does not know how to use the wrist, so it is really unreasonable to not lose.

So, when the prince destroys the Great Wall and gives his opponent a chance, how can a arrogant and arrogant man compare to a magician with a qiqiao and exquisite heart, and the contest between conspiracy and conspiracy often ends in the former's disastrous defeat. Although Eisenhan played by Edward Norton is a magician, he is more like a strategist who is well versed in the art of war. The two tricks are not only the tricks most used by magicians, but also the essence of the film.

"Thirty-six Strategies" expresses "something out of nothing" as: falsehood, not falsehood, in fact it is falsehood. It means to deceive the other party with the truth and falsehood, so that the other party regards the falsehood as the truth. And the expression of "hiding the sky and crossing the sea" is: preparing for the week is slack, and common is not suspicious. Yin is within Yang, not the opposite of Yang. It means that it is easy to be slack when it is closely guarded, and it is not easy to be suspicious when it is seen frequently, and the secrets are often hidden in public things.

The magician's wits object is the Viennese police inspector, and the prince of Zang has even become his prop. Using the gems on the prince's sword to blame the prince as the murderer of the Duchess is to create something out of nothing; to take drugs to make the Duchess fake death and then sneak into the countryside is to hide the truth. The best part is that the prince's bad criminal record has attracted a lot of money, confirming the identity of the murderer who "made something out of nothing", and his conspiracy to usurp the throne is also exposed. When the prince committed suicide by drinking a bullet, the magician finally won the victory.

Neil Burger's "The Magician" has largely left the category of "magic" and entered the world of "magic", and the artistic exaggeration in it provides a very good entertainment for the film. The decryption process at the end may be a little hasty (the detective's IQ has risen a bit sharply), but it is acceptable.

The only regret is that Jessica Biel, the heroine, is more than heroic and not beautiful enough. It seems that it is difficult for Norton to have a chemical reaction with him, so the relationship between the two is not so sincere. It gives me the impression that Eisenhan's "stealing" the Duchess seems to be a "big change", and the success of magic seems to make him more satisfied than holding a beauty.

The Illusionist quotes

  • Eisenheim: From the moment we enter this life we are in the flow of it. We measure it and we mark it, but we cannot defy it. We cannot even speed it up or slow it down. Or can we? Have we not each experienced the sensation that a beautiful moment seemed to pass to quickly, and wished that we could make it linger? Or felt time slow on a dull day, and wished that we could speed things up a bit?

  • Chief Inspector Uhl: As you know... we some times follow Duchess Von Teschen for her protection... Yesterday she was seen in the company of another man...

    Crown Prince Leopold: What man?

Chief Inspector Uhl: Eisenheim, the illusionist.

Crown Prince Leopold: What were they doing?

Chief Inspector Uhl: Well they were meeting and uh...

Crown Prince Leopold: Touching? Kissing?... Fornicating?
