Heavy industry and sturdiness are the characteristics of Russia. The old people all say that "old hairy things are solid and rough, but they are very durable!" Timur Bekmambetov's Russian ancestry not only gives the "Night Watch" series a unique Russian temperament, but also makes The Hollywood-funded Wanted has a very different texture, a texture of industrial metal. I have been to Datong in Shanxi, and I can really appreciate the rough, practical and messy texture of the industrial city. The factories, flies, spinning wheels, meat workshops in the film... These things that are common in Russia are put into "Wanted", and they have a cool industrial feel, which is a temperament that cannot be felt in Hollywood type films.
The same temperament carries over to the plot, and even the standard action sequences of Hollywood action movies. In some supernatural way, a giant loom tells a killer group the list of people they need to assassinate in order to keep the world in balance. This kind of setting is also very creative. Of course, things like textile machines are more common in industrial cities. A mouse tied to a homemade bomb for assassination must have been conceived by Russians who had been under the control of the KGB since childhood.
The action scenes in this film are definitely eye-catching. The scene of Mr. X breaking through the glass and jumping to the opposite tall building is very shocking; the scene where the two bullets hit the target through many obstacles at the beginning and end of the film could have been erected a few years earlier. New visual standards; the train car crashing into the valley is also Hollywood blockbuster (at least this CG train is much more realistic than the presidential plane in Air Force One!); all the "shooting" The shots are also very stylish, and the final duel in the textile factory was the most enjoyable. The male protagonist broke through the window and held two guns. "He walked away softly, just as he came softly, and he left with two guns, leaving corpses all over the place..."
"Wanted" is a great action movie. Originally, the plot can be very silly and naive, as long as the action scenes that really take care of things are good and powerful. Entering Hollywood for the first time, he not only controlled the performances of big names such as Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, but also controlled investors not to interfere too much with his style. Timur Bekmambetov is indeed very powerful. (Think of John Woo's "Ultimate Target" when he first entered Hollywood...) If you're an action movie fan with slightly different flavors, "Wanted" is a must-see.
