The Guest and The Exorcist
The first thing that terrifies or frightens is usually the unexpected, and the unexpected is often the most terrifying. Many times in the film, terrifying scenes are suddenly inserted into seemingly everyday scenes, such as Regan walking downstairs backwards, 360-degree head rotation, vomit, etc. Although it is a 1973 movie, it still seems to be quite scary today, precisely because this kind of scary scene is unpredictable for the audience. And why many domestic "horror movies" don't feel scary at all after watching it, because many audiences are already familiar with the routine, and what will happen in the next scene, the audience has already given a precaution in their hearts to prevent themselves from being too frightened.
In addition, the film's strong religious significance is also a major feature. Religious culture is deeply rooted in the Western world, and this cultural belief is widely present in literary and film works. Coincidentally, a Korean drama "Guest", which the author is chasing recently, pays tribute to this film to a large extent. They are also possessed by demons, they are two priests, one old and one young, the same exorcism, and the same cunning evil spirits. The difference is that most of the evil spirits in "Gu" were driven away after the exorcism ceremony, but this film did not succeed, and finally drove away the demons at the cost of the death of the two priests. This leads us to ask, does God really exist?
