When I watched the movie, I actually felt a little bit like reading the classics. I realized something in the ancient and rare years, and I haven't had it in a long time! Looking back more than 40 years later, there is indeed some flavor of the times, but modern movies have developed beautiful editing but lost their heavy ingenuity.
The male protagonist's portrayal is so good that it makes the mother and daughter's scenes seem a bit lengthy (perhaps because of seeing the extended version of the director). The casting is perfect (it's a pity that I didn't meet Bole since then), an extremely invincible and honest face, a little troubled but infinitely determined in his eyes, a hunchback and broad shoulders, if I were the devil, I would be tempted to conquer such ''prey''. Mother's drowsy and cramped residence, in the nursing home, the pair of pairs will pull people into despairing hands, the darkness in the archives room that almost drowns the protagonist, there is only a little light on the face, weak but worth moving forward (I don't know why I remembered it. Fragment of voice-operated video analysis in Blade Runner). Somehow, I understand how the older generation of filmmakers made fun of modern films. There are no digital hard drives and no computer retouching. Actors’ movements must be precisely matched with lighting. Every shot is very precious, so simple clips must contain enough emotional impact.
The old priest stood in the ruins and looked at the devil before leaving. The ghostly neon lights of the subway station, the texture of the radio and television leaders on the doctor's door, and even the arrogant tone of the heroine towards the servants, allude to the devil who has already walked the world. Compared with the various ''metaphors'' in modern films, it feels like ''Ginger is still old and spicy''. The old priest was stopped in the forest and stopped, as if his home had come. In contrast to the male lead's prudence, this inflexible mentor role seems to have a bit of ''divine'', slowly completing the arrangement of fate and guiding the male lead to make the final choice.
Everyone dressed in formal attire met in front of the door of the room, as if they were separated before the battlefield. Countless latecomers try to imitate such an atmosphere, but in comparison they are a bit of an idiot, because in The Exorcist, the nature of the devil is never revealed, and the protagonist still faces the unknown until the end.
It's more like a detective movie, bewildering, persevering and decisive. I really hope that when I can see such a suspenseful work. The closest material may be ''Tinker, Tailor, Spy'', hard work in darkness and confusion, what is belief, has nothing to do with content, doctrine, system, theory are all acceptable, after exhaustion, we shall start again. Film History The most wonderful exorcism.
It's not a horror movie, it's not much related to religion, and it's not which demon king the movie master cos black lipstick teenager researched on his upper body. After struggling and searching, I seem to have come to a realization: this is an exploration of faith, an epic about pilgrims.
