Like most of Hitchcock's predecessors, Vertigo's plot revolves around an elaborate conspiracy. Gavin Esther was a shipbuilder and his wife Madeline was a wealthy woman. In order to defraud a huge inheritance, Esther devised a conspiracy to murder his wife. He first picks detective Scottie (James Stewart), who suffers from acrophobia, and tells him that Madeleine is possessed by one of her ancestors who committed suicide, and hires him to keep his wife safe. Scottie stalks his wife. Little did Scotty know that he was stalking Judy, Madeleine's stand-in, a murder accomplice hired by Gavin to play the soul-possessed character. Scottie is fascinated by this mysterious woman, he sees "Madeleine" in various abnormal behaviors, and rescues her in time when she is about to commit suicide by jumping into the sea. "Madeline" then tells Scottie an "event in her memory" that appears to be a memory of her dead ancestor. Scottie described taking her to St. Juan Baptist Church, thinking this was what "Madeleine" remembered, but she disagreed. She left Scotty and climbed to the top of the church tower, which Scotty tried to stop, but the dizziness caused by the fear of heights left him powerless. Esther dropped the real Madeleine at the top of the tower, and Scotty, who left the church in fear, became his alibi. After the police officer who rescued him fell to his death at the beginning of the film, Scotty failed to prevent Madeleine's "suicide" because of his fear of heights. The double blow made him fall into depression, and the first paragraph of the film ended.

The [voyeurism] [transvestism] and [necrophilia] shown in this collection of works have actually been fully expressed in the more famous "Scary", which is the personality and style of the so-called master. Of course, the most impressive thing about this film is the photography aspect. First of all, the red and green with very high saturation. Especially the green perfectly presents the phrase [Love is a light, green makes you panic]. At the same time, the red and green, as well as the yellow and purple that I have spotted, are just contrasting colors in the [color circle], forming a combination of characters, which is exceptionally wonderful. The golden ratio and picture-in-picture framing of the restaurant scene made the scene as beautiful as an oil painting, which is also exceptionally stunning. The use of a moving zoom lens to produce a height-fearing effect in the stair-climbing scene must also have a far-reaching influence on later generations, all of which constitute the classic of Ecstasy, which is truly remarkable.

[8.8/10] The nightmare part can be consecrated. The ending is WTF. Hitchcock's ability to create a suspenseful atmosphere is too strong.

Vertigo quotes

  • Madeleine: There is something I must do, there is something I must do.

Scottie: There is nothing you must do. There is nothing you must do.

  • Scottie: I love you, Madeleine.

Madeleine: I love you, too. It's too late.

    Scottie: No, no, we're together.

Madeleine: It's too late. There's something I must do...

Scottie: [kisses her passionately] No, there is nothing you must do. There is nothing you must do. No one possesses you. You're safe with me.

Madeleine: [frantically] No, it's too late

[Madeleine breaks free and runs across the courtyard. Scottie trails behind her, eventually catching up to her. He holds her tightly]

Madeleine: Look, it's not fair. It's too late. It wasn't supposed to happen this way. It *shouldn't* have happened...

Scottie: But it had to happen. We're in love. That's all that counts!

Madeleine: [struggling] Look. Let me go! Please let me go!

Scottie: Listen to me. Listen to me.

Madeleine: [calmly] You believe I love you?

    Scottie: Yes.

Madeleine: And if you lose me, then you'll know I, I loved you. And I wanted to go on loving you.

    Scottie: I won't lose you.

Madeleine: Let me go into the church - alone.

    Scottie: Why?

[they kiss for the last time. Scottie releases his grip and Madeleine walks away towards the bell tower]
