"Room" is a drama film directed by Leonard Abrahamson and starring Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, William H. Macy and others. The film was released in Ireland on January 15, 2016. The film is adapted from Emma Donoghue's original novel of the same name. It tells the story of a girl who was deceived by her neighbor and then imprisoned in a small room for seven years. The girl Joey was deceived by her neighbor and then Imprisoned in a small room for seven years. During this time she was raped and gave birth to her son Jack. Like all mothers, Joey also does his best to create a safe and happy atmosphere for his children to grow up. Although they are trapped in a room of less than 10 square meters, through fantasy Joey has created a magical world for his son. But as he grew up, Jack's curiosity made him no longer satisfied with this world, so Joey carefully planned and took Jack out of the room where they were imprisoned. However, after escaping, the mother and son, who had been out of society for too long, realized that the real world was what scared them the most. Jack is a five-year-old boy who has never left the room since he was born. He believed that everything in this room was real and everything else was unreal. But how does Jack react when his mother suddenly tells him that there are other real things outside this room.

The film is faithfully adapted from the book, and through this seemingly limited narrative perspective, it creates a contrasting effect of "being in a desperate situation but not feeling it", and finally achieves "the real value of telling a somewhat scary story". There is no attempt to induce tears in this work, but instead reveals the purest human affection. Five-year-old Jack touches everyone's heart, his voice, his experiences, his innocence, his humor, his love for his mother, make the story set on a sinister premise, but still feel Hope and strength.

Room quotes

  • Old Nick: What's that smell?

Ma: Sorry, I burned some cheese. Here. I just wasn't thinking.

Old Nick: Well, thinking is not your strong suit.

  • Ma: [about the mouse] He's on the other side of this wall.

    Jack: What other side?

Ma: Jack, there's two sides to everything.

    Jack: Not on an octagon.

    Ma: Yeah, but...

Jack: [Interrupts] An octagon has eight sides

Ma: But a wall, okay, a wall's like this, see? And we're on the inside and mouse is on the outside.

    Jack: In outer space?

Ma: No, in the world. It's much closer than outer space.

    Jack: I can't see the outside-side.

Ma: Listen, I know that I told you something else before, but you were much younger. I didn't think that you could understand, but now you're so old, you're so smart. I know that you can get this. Where do you think that old Nick gets our food?

    Jack: From TV by magic!
