"The Name of the Rose".
It is not unimportant that the rose is still Rome. Some people are satisfied with the rose, and some will persistently seek their roots to Rome.
I am the latter.
Watching "The Name of the Rose" for the third time.

Of course each time is different.
The first time, Chinese subtitles.
The second time, English subtitles.
The third time, mainly listening.

Studying a film over and over again, observing the details, summarizing the outline and themes, exercising my analytical and refining abilities, and improving my knowledge. Before watching this film, I did not pay attention to the Saint Franciscans and the Dominicans. Although I knew the religious courts, I did not understand its intimidating power. I was fortunate to find the electronic version of "The Name of the Rose". , I will read, so that I can have a deeper understanding of semiotics and religious knowledge.

This "The Name of the Rose" is from an album by Sean Connery, and I watched "The First Knight" the night before. The story of King Arthur is also my favorite theme.

Compared with books, the movie is too boring and raw, and the peculiar library is decent.

The Name of the Rose quotes

  • Adso of Melk: And what was the word you both kept mentioning?

    William of Baskerville: Penitenziagite.

Adso of Melk: What does it mean?

William of Baskerville: It means that the hunchback undoubtedly was once a heretic. Penitenziagite was a rallying cry of the dolcinites.

Adso of Melk: Dolcinites? Who were they, master?

William of Baskerville: Those who believed in the poverty of Christ.

Adso of Melk: So do we Franciscans.

William of Baskerville: But they also declared that everyone must be poor, so they slaughtered the rich. Ha! You see, Adso, the step between ecstatic vision and sinful frenzy is all too brief.

Adso of Melk: [looking at the Hunchback] Well, then, could he not have killed the translator?

William of Baskerville: No. No, fat bishops and wealthy priests were more to the taste of the dolcinites, hardly a specialist of Aristotle.

  • William of Baskerville: We are very fortunate to have such snowy ground here. It is often the parchment on which the criminal unwittingly writes his autograph. Now, what do you read from these footprints here?
