"Field Platoon" is different: first of all, when we look back on the "Vietnam War" a few years later, we will find that the just anti-American aid to Vietnam at that time was actually a struggle between two political groups with different ideologies in the Vietnam region. Why do we say this? People of our age still vaguely remember that after the victory of the "Battle of Dien Bien Phu" under the leadership of the Vietnamese Communist Party Chairman Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese military and civilians and the French divided South Vietnam and North Vietnam, and divided and ruled them. China has always supported North Vietnam, the "Democratic Republic of Vietnam", led by Ho Chi Minh. First, France and then the United States supported South Vietnam, the "Republic of Vietnam" led by Ngo Dinh Diem. South Vietnam and North Vietnam were in a state of division and confrontation.
In the 1960s, the United States began to attack North Vietnam, which is the beginning of what we call the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Vietnam. The "Viet Cong" in the film is not only strong in combat, but also in weapons that are not behind the Americans. The reason for this is that the Viet Cong retreated steadily shortly after the war began. After all, the weapons and equipment of the two warring parties were very different. But with strong support from China and the former Soviet Union, the tide of the war was reversed. In the film, there is a section after the US military camp was severely damaged, the US military counted the casualties on both sides of the battle, and the result was that the death toll of the attackers was much lower than that of the US military. In addition to the combat effectiveness of soldiers, the comparability of weapons and equipment is also an important factor.
I remember a Chinese colleague who participated in the Vietnam War once said that there were several tens of thousands of Chinese troops fighting in Vietnam. Vietnamese. However, the weapons are all from the Soviet Union, especially heavy weapons such as anti-aircraft guns, howitzers, tanks, and rocket launchers are basically provided by the Soviet Union. It is a well-known fact that "China produces people, and the Soviet Union produces guns." The United States has an excellent intelligence agency, and of course it should be known. Since these are not put on the table, everyone is tacit.
In 1973, the United States and the Viet Cong signed an armistice agreement in the international public opinion and the anti-war voice in the United States, and the war that lasted for 8 years ended. In 1975, North Vietnam launched an all-out attack on South Vietnam, and the whole territory of Vietnam was unified.
If this war is a victory of a just war won by the Vietnamese people with the support of China, the Soviet Union and other countries, then after two years, Vietnam invaded Cambodia and imposed the war on the Cambodian people. Is this still just? Who is righteous in the Sino-Vietnamese War of 1984? Different positions have their own rhetoric. The reasons for launching wars vary widely, but war means damage, death, and the distortion of people's souls.
"Field Platoon", through the tragic battle scenes, deeply excavates the different effects of this war on the American soldiers participating in the war, as well as the different performances of people with different family backgrounds, social status and personalities in the war. The film has a lot of ink on it, and any event, no matter how big or small, requires the participation of someone, let alone a war. At that time, soldiers were often the key to determining the success or failure of battles. Individual thoughts, words and deeds may affect other people or even groups, which in turn affects the outcome of combat missions. The characters in the film are portrayed realistically and the event descriptions are credible, and the result is naturally a matter of course and convincing. It can be seen that the editors and directors have a solid foundation in life.
Whoever wants to go to war just has to go to war, this should be the thinking of most soldiers. To fight means to die, and if you don't want to die, you have to kill your opponent. This is what goes on throughout the film. Most of the murders without injustice and no enmity are out of helplessness in order to survive, but when a relative or comrade-in-arms is killed, revenge murder is motivated and conscious. The hatred was born and like a snowball, it kept getting bigger and bigger. The growth and bravery of warriors, and the resistance and fearlessness of civilians, mostly come from this. The film also sheds light on this theme.
I think there are pros and cons to the rotation system of American soldiers in the war. After one year, you will have hope, I can fight hard, and in just 365 days, I can get rid of death and change my situation. This has mobilized the aggressive spirit of the soldiers participating in the war. However, for some people, it is different to avoid danger to save themselves, and survive 365 days without dying. But you can't really say what's right and what's wrong about human selfish nature. The film reminds the audience of it, and you can only take a seat according to your own understanding.
I don't have that level, nor is it necessary, to make a standard review of the film. But the visual impact of the film is very strong, and the display of different human nature is also very real. Because the previous understanding of the historical background of the film's period was only a single-angle understanding for political reasons, it was very incomplete. "Field Platoon" shows us the characters, thoughts, behaviors, weapons and equipment, fighting methods and other details of the other side of the enemy. It still broadens our horizons and updates our views, and from this we can deduce some similar wars that have happened in the past. a different understanding than before.
