When I usually answer the question "Which is your favorite movie?", the first thing that comes to my mind is Sam Mendes' American Beauty. This answer is not thought and analyzed at all. I don't know why. When I think of "American Beauty" first, there must be something special that left a deep impression on my subconscious. But 007 I'm not mainly optimistic about the director, because my 007 is Denzel Krazer. Regardless of the plot, Denzel's image is already 007. He's the most perfect agent, much better than Hunter in my opinion.
The perfect image comes from his imperfect personality. He is the first agent who can make me feel haggard, helpless, restless, and sad. When watching Denzel's 007, I must experience his pain. His pain is the essence of these 4 films. Especially his love with VESPER was so poignant and hopeless that he suppressed it. And his relationship with M. If you can appreciate the unbreakable loyalty and the difficult process of balancing Ms. M's feelings for him and putting the big picture first, then the superficially powerful and M is actually very firm behind it. Faith and inescapable guilt.
It's impossible for a protagonist to die, especially in a hero movie, but Denzel's version of 007 made me feel that he was so close to death because I felt his vulnerability. Possibly more dangerous plots other spy movies have, but don't feel the possibility of failure. Denzel's 007 makes me think that he is just an ordinary person who has only received some training. He takes on huge responsibilities because he has no choice. In the face of danger, love, and setbacks, he will have the same reaction as us ordinary people. He tries to hide his vulnerability and ordinaryness, but is exposed to us by the camera. This is what gives the movie the most real excitement.
