Movies in 2007 seem to like realism? Many films are based on partial historical facts, and this film is no exception.
I feel that the genre is a bit like "The Way of Thieves" back then. Compared with its "Pirates also have a way", this movie pays more attention to details. The tedious opening and foreplay make people a little tired.
Too much foreplay can't raise people's excitement. So that you can't feel where the climax of the movie is.
Is Denzel Washington too nervous, perhaps trying to stay true to historical figures on the one hand, but also trying to break through for his own sake? The whole person feels a little overkill in the movie. The two masters played against each other, and the spark was not obvious. The fire between Pacino and De Niro in "Pirates of Fire" that year seems to be invisible in this film. Some regrets.
Still, it's a good movie.
