Through time and space girls and girls across time and space

Bo Bangni

we have some cut-off point in everyone's life. When the memory got there, it stopped. Of course, we are always going forward and have to go, with all the glory and brokenness and peace and happiness going forward. But you know, you are not complete. Part of you was intercepted by time, she waved goodbye to you and stayed there forever. For the rest, always try to look back for those pieces.

For me, I probably always yearn to return to the age of seventeen. Go and see that good-looking boy and the self at the time. Ten years have passed, and there are still some moments. I told myself in my dream that I would not be separated. When I woke up, I knew it was just a dream. We will not separate.

If you can travel through time and space, where do you want to go? Most people would not choose the distant outer space, the prosperous Tang Dynasty, or the era of Gintama. We just want to go back to those cut-off points of time, to embrace the unbroken self.

Sorry for posting so many complaints that have nothing to do with "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time". These complaints reveal that I am actually old. Dear young reader, it is a spring afternoon. I am sitting here, the curtains are constantly rolled out of the window by the restless wind. I want to talk about things that seem to have nothing to do with the movie. No, actually, there is nothing unrelated to the movie. Everything in life created those movies. We love a movie, a cartoon, or a comic, never just because of the work itself. It's that we cherish that life. The important thing is not movies, but we "watch" movies. We are creating movies and participating in movies.

"The Girl Who Traveled Through Time" is outstanding in terms of the creation itself. I always thought that the best work is easy to do. It is very light. A girl gains the superpower of "continuously traveling through time and space", but it is only used to solve the trivial trivial matters in life: cope with the exam, don't make a fool of yourself, sing K for a while, grab the pudding with your sister...Used to escape, escape what was originally Why do buddies suddenly want to confess to me. Interrupting time again and again, just to avoid embarrassing confession. And when she really wanted to face the confession, when she wanted to confess, the super powers were exhausted. That boy actually came from the future, he gave her super powers. Now he is exposed and must go back.

After reading it, for a period of time, I have a kind of "traversing girl" complex. I kept finding the original novels, the movies shot that year, and later TV shows. To my surprise, the plot of the original novel and the cartoon is very different. The original heroine has a serious personality, wandering between two boys, one is a serious handsome guy, and the other is a fool. All her superpowers are used to save life and death. Except for the most basic framework, nothing else exists.

However, this is where I admire creators the most. The so-called adaptation should brutally tear apart the skin of the original work, leaving only the hardest core, filling it with flesh and blood at will, and letting in and out of it freely. The so-called classics are works that can withstand "bad practice". Things that cannot move at all have no vitality.

"The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" retains the most precious things: the keen and accurate sense of youth that is different with the passage of time; and the deep and true thinking about youth hidden in the easy jumping plot. In my opinion, maybe that kind of rough remorse is youth. Youth just thinks that it can keep coming back, keep going back, keep squandering, it’s okay, but it’s not.

The movie still pays tribute to the original novel, in a clever and elegant way. After the heroine discovers her superpowers, she goes to discuss with her aunt. My aunt was doing the work of restoring ancient paintings, and she said indifferently, "Every girl can travel through time and space when she is young." That's right, she is the heroine of the original novel. It was the woman who had to face the boy she liked and had gone back to the future, waiting in vain. And the girl who is still a girl in the present, her future boy, returns to this time and space just to see the ancient painting that is being restored. In his time and space, the painting has been destroyed and disappeared. Here, time and space and memories, original works and adaptations, form a beautiful loop.

Adaptation is not inferior to original work. The creator of the adaptation can also make a shout stronger than the original. Just like this version of "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", the time has been updated, the girl is no longer like an aunt, just satisfied with waiting still, at the end of the movie, she ran desperately and said loudly: "I'll pick you up! go!"

Finally, let me talk about the fate of "The Girl Who Traveled Through Time" and me. I can't find the original novel all over the place. One day, when I returned to my hometown, facing my seventeen-year-old bookshelf, I saw an old book from that time, a thin one with a green cover. The previous novel is very short, and there is another one attached to the back, called "The Girl Who Traveled Through Time".

At that moment, I seemed to see the seventeen-year-old me, walking up to me and smiling slightly at me.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time quotes

  • Makoto Konno: Yuri... You know, I... have something I couldn't tell you.

    Yuri Hayakawa: What is it?

Makoto Konno: I... like Chiaki. Sorry.

Yuri Hayakawa: I see... That's what I thought. I passed him on my way here. Go.

    [Makoto nods]

Yuri Hayakawa: Makoto! Time waits for no one...

  • [Chiaki just asked out Makoto and to avoid it, she leaps back to a conversation with Kousuke that happened a few minutes before. Upon landing, she clangs her head against a sign]

Chiaki Mamiya: Uh, what the hell are you doing down there?

    Makoto Konno: Nothing at all.

Chiaki Mamiya: Don't come crying to me when you change your mind too late about dating that girl.

Kousuke Tsuda: Can we please just drop it now?

    [Turns and walks away]

    Chiaki Mamiya: See ya!

    Kousuke Tsuda: Later!

Chiaki Mamiya: Hey where's your bike? Get on, I'll double ya.

Makoto Konno: [Swallows nervously, remembering what happened before]

Chiaki Mamiya: [Riding the bike home, with Makoto on the back again] That loser Kousuke, beat me to it.

Makoto Konno: It's not as if he decided to go out with her.

Chiaki Mamiya: That's what he says now, but I bet if he got a girlfriend then he'd always pick her over us.

Makoto Konno: You can't be sure about that.

Chiaki Mamiya: Oh man, without Kousuke, we'd only be able to toss the ball around.

Makoto Konno: Why do you give the poor guy some credit and deal with it IF and when Kousuke does start seeing a girl.

Chiaki Mamiya: Well, there's not much we can do if it happens. Anyway, how about you go out with me?

Makoto Konno: Like I said, why are we talking about this?

[Leaps back in time again to avoid being asked out]

Chiaki Mamiya: [Riding the bike home, with Makoto on the back again] That's what he says now, but I bet if he got a girlfriend then he'd always pick her over us.

Makoto Konno: Hey, did I ever tell you what a total idiot my little sister is?

Chiaki Mamiya: Uh, I was talking about Kousuke in case you didn't notice.

Makoto Konno: Forget him, let's talk about my sister.

Chiaki Mamiya: So anyway, if Kousuke finds a girlfriend...

Makoto Konno: LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY SISTER!

Chiaki Mamiya: DO YOU WANNA GO OUT WITH ME?

[Makoto leaps back yet again and realizing that Chiaki is going to ask her out despite her trying to change the conversation, she proceeds to walk home to avoid it altogether]
