Denzel Washington has a play by himself, and he deserves the golden statuette.
The most important thing is that this film made me blurred again about the ultimate human proposition of "good and evil".
The detective played by Washington is a typical refined egoist, but also has his own "law of the jungle". At least drug issues and gang issues require him to maintain a limited balance. A complete purge does not seem like a good solution, as evidenced by the current "war on drugs" in the Philippines. It is unwise to drive criminals without a way out. I have to say that sometimes people like Washington are needed to settle some problems, and only he can catch the big fish and solve the big drug lord in the film.
The rookie Jack, who contrasts with him, sticks to his own conscience and bottom line, and refuses to join forces, but he is also unwilling to take mediocre work. In dealing with gang incidents, he almost lost his life because of Washington's betrayal. But the director's characterization let him go after the gang leader learned that he had rescued his niece. Although he is a heinous gang leader, the loyalty and blood relationship between the gangs (see attitude towards family members) make them look at the "bad guys" in the eyes of ordinary people.
no zuo no die Washington finally paid the price for his domineering and self-righteousness, and was shot into a hornet's nest by the Russians. The poor gang bosses in the black community collectively defected and refused to shake his hand behind their backs--obviously his values were spurned by the gangsters whose gangs followed the logic of "one eye for one eye".
After all, people still have to mix. Come out and mix, sooner or later you will have to pay it back. Sometimes, in the face of some people, you can't help yourself, and you can talk to people and talk to ghosts. The law of the jungle requires training for the survival of the fittest. But whether it is the moral code that Jack believes in or the retribution of grievances pursued by the gang, it always has to become the core of the "human essence". Otherwise, it will only end up like Washington, where people are betrayed and separated from each other.
There are many hints and expressions of family affection in the film, which makes people feel a touch of warmth after the bloody violence when watching this gangster-themed film.
Good movie, 8.2 points, recommended.
