The creed might as well be renamed - The Emperor's New Clothes

The liar said that only those who have real talents and practical knowledge can see the emperor's new clothes, so people nodded in praise, saying that His Majesty's new clothes are really beautiful.

Film critics said that Nolan's new film "Creed" contained how many complex scientific concepts and how profound the connotation, so people gave high marks to express that they understood it.

I didn't understand it, and I don't want to understand it.

I'm sitting in the cinema thinking only one thing:

Why are movie tickets not refundable?

Boring storyline, boring character setting, deja vu soundtrack. It's like a middle school student who has read several popular science books and wrote a clumsy science fiction story composition, showing off scientific concepts and sublimating the protagonist's firm belief in saving the world. Such composition teachers are more likely to give high marks.

Of course, in this age of political correctness, the leading man who saves the world has to be a black actor. This is a plus.

No matter how rubbish the story is. But I am politically correct! I also talked about some scientific concepts! Everyone can attack the left and the right, but who dares to be disrespectful to science, you don't understand anyway.

There is a famous saying that when dogs don't understand, they shake their heads frequently; when people don't understand, they nod their heads frequently.

This is actually not a famous quote, but a teenage high school girl said on Weibo back then.

Obviously I was watching a movie, but it seemed like I was back in the sleepy physics class in middle school. It's also an admirable ability to make a movie as boring as a physics class.

Looking around, some viewers were engrossed in swiping their phones. While it's rude to swipe your phone in a movie theater, I can understand them.

Since I came with a friend, I was embarrassed to leave halfway through. A friend is swiping his mobile phone, and he may be embarrassed to quit halfway.

"Why can't movie tickets be refunded?" This question quickly became clear. Uniqlo clothes can be returned because they can be sold again. But at this moment, this position really cannot be sold. People watch movies mainly for directors and stars. Even if a theater introduces a refund system, it will not make users more loyal and bring enough benefits.

If "Inception" and "Interstellar" bring people a wonderful viewing experience, "Creed" brings people an unbearable viewing experience. After thinking about "Why can't movie tickets be refunded?", I started to think about another question:

When will this movie end?

about this movie. I think the two concepts emphasized in behavioral economics are quite explanatory.

One is the halo effect. "The halo effect is a factor that affects interpersonal perception. This quality or characteristic of the strong perception of the love house and Wu, like the halo of the moon halo, diffuses and spreads to the surrounding, so people vividly call this psychological effect the halo effect. ."

Why did I buy tickets for Nolan's new movie without even thinking about it?

Because this is the director who filmed "Inception" and "Interstellar". I subconsciously feel that his new film must be good, must be good, must be good.

Why is this obviously a garbage movie, and there are countless people who write five-star reviews and write movie reviews full of praise? Excluding some people really like it, the behavior of other people can also be explained by the halo effect. For them, as long as it is a Nolan movie, as long as it is a collective recommendation of film critics, it must be good, it must be good, it must be good.

The second is loss aversion. "Loss aversion is when people are faced with the same amount of gain and loss, and they perceive the loss as more unbearable."

In the movie theater, when we can no longer stand a certain movie, we know that the money and time we have spent are sunk costs and are no longer worth worrying about. Why do they rarely leave halfway through?

Because of loss aversion. The feeling of spending money and not seeing this "loss" makes us uncomfortable. And we know that halfway stance will feel even stronger. So most of the time I am willing to endure it.

This can also explain why it is obviously a junk movie, but there are still many people who praise it. Because I've spent the money and time thinking the movie is good, I have nothing to lose, or even gain. So I am willing to give one or two more stars, and I am willing to discuss the scientific concepts in the film with enthusiasm. In this way, I also integrate into popular topics, and interact with others, which is also a benefit. On the contrary, if you criticize and question it, you will first prove that your consumption choices are wrong, and secondly, you will have differences with others. You may also be ridiculed by Nolan's brain-dead fans as lacking in intelligence and unable to understand the depth of the movie, which will bring me losses.

Of course, I don't deny that some people really like this movie, and people's aesthetic preferences vary widely, and it's not that I can't understand such preferences.

I also don't think the concepts of "halo effect" and "loss aversion" are necessarily correct in explaining phenomena, but they are very instructive.

Sometimes that little bit of revelation fascinates me more than absolutely right.
