violent, cruel, grand

Martin's new work always reminds me of China. From The Departed to this New York gangster, I can see the shadow of the remake of Hong Kong movies. The former is undoubtedly a remake of Infernal Affairs, while the latter reminds me of Shanghai easily.

It's nothing more than hooliganism, nothing more than love and hate, nothing more than gang disputes, nothing more than a comparison between rich and poor, nothing new, but Martin's plays always add some American elements, such as what history, what religion, what politics And so on, it makes this unremarkable theme look extraordinarily grand and shocking, so that it can not only win the box office, but also win some awards and so on.

This makes me very surprised. When it comes to remakes, there are many more Chinese remakes of American films than American remakes of China. Why are those domestic remakes not good-looking? From 24 Hours to Sex and the City, Future Men, I can't remember the names of those remakes, they are neither good-looking nor innovative. The two films that Martin turned over were both big box office hits.

In addition to the bloody big scenes and the excellent interpretation of the protagonist, the story is average. The director's technique is good, but there is no such thing as the legendary Martin. In the film, you can often see scenes that are not bloody but make people afraid to look down, such as the butcher's flying knife, which is really thrilling.

What I want to say is LEONARDO. It is said that this is the first film of his transformation. After watching it, I think about it, what is transformation? But he grew a beard, his delicate lines were roughened, the melancholy in his eyes was replaced by ferocity, and his attire changed from making him slender to strong, and that's all. The ever-changing emotions in LEO's eyes are still moving. If you are careful, you can see that LEO is still the same. Even the gesture of shaking his hair is exactly the same as in the basketball diary. Hehe, no matter how high his acting skills are, he can still see his own shadow in the film.

The heroine is not too pretty, it's okay. In short, the cold rice fried by Uncle Martin is still unique.

  • Killoran: Monk's already won by three thousand more votes than there are voters.

Boss Tweed: Only three? Make it twenty, thirty. We don't need a victory. We need a Roman triumph.

  • [speaking of Bill the Butcher]

Jenny: When I was twelve years old, my mother was dead, and I was livin' in a doorway. He took me in. Took care of me, in his way. After they cut out the baby... well, he doesn't fancy girls that's scarred up. But you might as well know in your own mind that he never laid a hand on me until I asked him to.
