This article involves specific plots, so if you haven't watched the movie, please take a detour!
=========================
Just when everyone was tired of Disney's Marvel Universe and felt that the Spider-Man copyright in Sony's hands was basically blind, "Parallel Universe" came out.
1. Parallel universes, tough bones : We love Pete Benjamin Parker (hereinafter referred to as B Parker) too deeply, so if it weren't for him as the protagonist, no matter the depth of the spider powder, it would collapse (remember the comics Wei's previous word-of-mouth revenue exploded), so people who invest in movies can't see the depth of the water.
And Sony's plan this time is very bold, although I have not seen the new comics of Marvel's series with black protagonists, but this film should not copy a special one-line script, with considerable originality. So what did Sony do to keep the parallel universe from becoming a grass powder artifact:
1. Pete Parker is not B Parker . There is not much to say about this, the feelings are not deep, and it is more acceptable for the audience to hang up, but in terms of narrative, before B Parker came to this universe, Pete Parker in this universe "camouflaged" very close to B Parker, So the audience will still feel a little bit uncomfortable when Pete Parker dies.
2. B Parker is Xiao Hei's mentor . Although the main character has been replaced, B. Parker still has a place and weight in the story, which is a huge comfort to the audience.
3. Character design is appropriate . In terms of character design, a cartoon pig plays the nostalgic childhood card, the black and white Spider-Man plays the nostalgic black old movie card, the Japanese Spider-Man plays the oriental animation card, and the heroine takes the handsome route of partial punk. Which one is cool, which one is very interesting, which one can mobilize the audience's memory and emotion, and the right combination creates joy.
4. Don’t take the hardcore route . After all, everyone knows that the essence of the so-called parallel universe is to balance Marvel and DC's decades of comics reserves and the reasons they have found for countless classic episodes, so there is no need to show them to ordinary audiences. The plot of comics with a low face (after all, ordinary audiences don't know what they shouldn't know), everyone is happy to choose Happy Paradise meal.
But this is not absolute. The current style positioning of this film is a great choice for the current situation where the entire Super British movie is getting more and more boring, but the idea of "no one is guilty" can be used once, but it will be boring twice. If there is a sequel, it is best to strengthen the emotional drama to a certain extent, otherwise it will become more and more watery.
5. No political correctness . B. Parker, 2 males and 2 females, is very safe. Everyone knows why the comic book version of the Marvel heroes' gender and race changes, but this film clearly chooses to avoid this problem. Although the film has taken care of all kinds of equality, the motives of each character's behavior are not "I am a woman", "I am Asian" or the like. The fundamental motive is still to express everyone's fate and choice. It looks smooth, relaxed and comfortable.
6. The purpose of the parallel universe is respect . This film basically showed the existing 2D animation and comics once, and tried the existing forms of Spider-Man. The concept of "parallel worlds" is expressed through different painting styles and consciously expresses the characteristics of animation performances. For example, Spider-Man's attack method is "anvil falling", and the movement method of Spider-Man's arm at the end of the easter egg, etc., all retain the production techniques and cartoon style at that time. This makes the audience's biggest feeling when they see the film is that "the filmmakers understand us". The film is positioned with respect for the audience and for Spider-Man's existing work, which is enough for a light-hearted film.
2. The movie was acted out
1. Tribute to the comics : Visually, I have seen this film with limited super-English reading experience, and it should be the most visually pleasing comic book reader. The large number of onomatopoeias, the small yellow frame of the inner monologue, the effect symbols on the top of the characters’ heads, the occasional comic-style shots, the dotted paper skins on the characters’ body, the comic-style framing, the deliberately reduced frames imitating the hand-drawn animation of the character movement , and put all the reading pleasures of American manga and animation into the film. These symbols have always been the most interesting details in various comics. This film has a lot of reference points in these aspects. It not only takes advantage of the excitement of reading comics, but also pays tribute to the fun of reading comics. It also jumps out of the art style of the previous animated film Eraser Man, which can be said to serve multiple purposes.
This is why I struggled with how to position this film (not from an academic point of view, but an impression): if it is an animation, it is better than most of the current superhero animated versions (yes, it is better than Ninja Batman, and The previous Japanese studio did much better). If it is a movie, the whole viewing experience is not like watching a superhero movie at all. If it is an animated film, what is the animated film in our impression all along? The art design of this film, such as the graffiti in the subway station, is obviously much more elaborate than the animation films that have always been around. If this kind of four dislikes is not done well, it is easy to arouse people's disgust, but this film has found a balance in comics, movies and animations.
Especially the easter eggs at the end of the film are too happy for those who have been in contact with them.
2. Try multiple styles . Multiple painting styles are placed in the same movie and are generally made into a unit movie. For example, the animated version of "The Matrix", "Genius Party" and so on. Each unit has an author, and each unit belongs entirely to the author's style. And this film chooses multiple painting styles in the same frame, which naturally brings vitality and fun, and the filmmakers have grasped the vitality.
It will be very difficult to really put more than two styles of painting together, because their movement laws and rhythms are completely different. In the case of this film, the most prominent example is the drawing of Spider-Man. Spider-Man has very few scenes, and there are also few highly deformed and exaggerated movements like Warner's old cartoons, just to take care of the visual effects of the whole film. If the role of Spider-Man is completely performed in the style of the old cartoons, The whole movie is going to be ruined.
shortcoming:
- There are a lot of villains, but the portrayal is too thin, and I really don't know who the kingpin is...
- The Japanese Spider-Man has a poor painting style, and the character modeling is very similar to the product of American comic book lovers who have not learned Japanese painting style well.
- This is an advantage or a disadvantage. The wise man sees wisdom: The character setting based on the stereotyped thinking that Japanese characters must be female high school students + superpower + robot is obviously not much creative. The fun of this robot is very limited, very much like a background. In addition, the shape of this robot is really like an electronic pet toy in Japan...
-The red and black spider suit is really ugly, especially when the black is actually navy blue and the red is more pink and brighter.
Summary: Why do I like this film?
Because in recent years, there are too few movies that make people happy and tell stories well. What are the film and television works of China, Japan and the United States doing in the past few years: the society is too peaceful, which is not conducive to the depiction of suffering, so many writers choose concave or hypocritical; lack of realistic observation for one type of character, resulting in thin and formulaic stories; then It's sensational, ticklish-like making laughs, exposing something in order to expose something, making a shallow comment about life and then continuing to be painless and itchy, and so on. The central problem here is that the super British movie has become the thinking of the American drama: who dies, who lives, who lives and dies; who cooperates with whom, who splits with whom... and stinks It's long and has nothing to say, and the fate of the character has become an indifferent existence. The audience can't see the growth or change of the characters, and can't get feelings from them. In this regard, at least this film respects each character, it respects the life path and basic values of each character, so it deduces the fate of each character, such as Miles' father, watching After his brother's death, he didn't say "I'm going to blow up Spider-Man", but rationally realized that there was another reason for his brother's death, so in the end, as a policeman, he chose to accept Spider-Man's cooperation as a father. , he chose to cherish his relatives in the way of graffiti that his younger brother liked.
The art is satisfactory, very satisfactory. For me personally there are a lot of places to refer to. For ordinary people, when you watch it for the second time, you still feel that the picture is pleasing to the eye, not boring and disgusting, and you can still see many small details, which means it is a success. And from the ED at the end of the film, the production team should enjoy and enjoy their work very much. This is something to be happy about.
As Sony has finally found a new direction for the development of Super British, this direction is different. Congrats should be given (Disney, Warner). I actually like "The Amazing Spider-Man", but it's based on Disney thinking after all, and it's passive in every way. So I hope to work harder in the shooting of "Parallel World 2" (if there is any), not to open up and down, to be mere formality, and to be blind to the idea that I finally came up with.
