The world will be good? On the Possibility of Human Reconciliation

The world we live in is becoming more and more fragmented, but at every stage of human history, the seeds of reconciliation are nurtured in the fragmentation. Recently, I just watched a few movies and TV based on real history, all of which are related to reconciliation. I'm quite touched. Say it and share it with people.

The first one is seen in The Crown.

In the 1960s, Wales became independent and believed that Wales should exist independently of the United Kingdom, because Wales is another place in terms of geography, language and culture (very coincidentally, their philosophy is also a high degree of autonomy and self-determination), the cabinet suggested that the royal family do A political publicist to win over Welsh people, it coincided with Prince Charles being named Prince of Wales, so he was selected to do goodwill, went to a university in Wales, studied Welsh for three months, and delivered an award speech in Welsh.

There is an episode about this event, which is a very complete show of the political art of compromise --> dialogue --> understanding --> reconciliation. Not without inspiration for ordinary people. You will find that in most cases, the two types of people who have different ideas and regard them as enemies usually lack mutual understanding and empathy. As long as both parties are rational, open, and have sincerity to understand each other, they can finally compromise and achieve a precious reconciliation. Each other will be inspired and improved.

At the beginning, Charles had just lived a life of study he liked in Cambridge. He was very unhappy with this political task and reluctantly left Cambridge with the feeling of being in prison for three months. After I went to Wales, I didn't want to know much about this place and the people here. I wanted to be a fool and hurriedly finished my talk and went back to Cambridge to continue my life. The Welsh teacher assigned to Charles was a firm "wealthy independence". At first, he was reluctant to tutor members of the royal family whom he regarded as an enemy. Later, considering his influence, he reluctantly took over because he felt that it would be helpful to the Welsh independence movement. The first time they met, they showed their carriage and horses, and there was basically no communication except for teaching. Later, in each conflict, they had a deeper understanding of each other, Charles mainly through reading, and the teacher through observation. One lonely weekend, the teacher invited him to dinner, Charles learned that a small Welsh town had been submerged due to a national water conservancy project (the Welsh-speaking residents were scattered as a result), and the professor also found out how unloving and loving it was. Caring for the poor child. When he watched the teacher and his wife take the child upstairs to sleep, he felt very envious. He had neither childhood nor the love of his parents. As mutual understanding deepens, the road to reconciliation begins. Because we understand each other, the fate of human beings is the same tragedy in essence. Under the control of fate, individuals have their own difficulties.

In the end, Charles did not follow the royal family's speech. He wrote one based on what he saw, heard, and felt. The teacher helped him translate it into Welsh. The speech was sincere, the people of Wales were moved, and a political crisis was resolved peacefully. also became friends. At this time, you will feel that there is still hope for human beings. The world might get better.

The second one is "Green Book". I just watched it today. It's a really good movie. Whether it's casting, writing or acting, it's very skilled. "Green Book" tells the story of a black musician and an Italian-American middle- and lower-class people who understand each other's changes in cooperation and conflict because of a working relationship in the era of American segregation. These two people with different identities, status and skin color have spent 8 weeks together. During the 8 weeks, their understanding gradually deepened, and finally they changed their impression of each other and became lifelong friends.

Roughly sort out the conditions for understanding and reconciliation between people.

First of all, people must be honest with themselves. Hypocritical people are usually self-enclosed, usually selfish, and will not consider things other than interests. Although Tony in "Green Book" is a rough man, he is a sincere person. Even if he doesn't admit his fault with his mouth, he will reflect and think in his heart. For example, Dr. Shelley said, do you feel dignified to just kneel by the side of the road and play cards to make some money? He was unconvinced in his mouth, but his heart was still touched. He couldn't come into contact with people like a doctor in his background, but he was sincere, open, and willing to accept new knowledge and concepts, even if he felt uncomfortable at first. It was the first time that Dr. Shelly ate KFC and found that the food that he had never touched was actually delicious. He also thought it was fun to indulge in the "free and easy" indulgence of throwing bones, but the bottom line would not be broken - throwing disposable cups is absolutely not good. Tony was moved by his piano playing, watched the injustices and hypocrisy of the white people and repented of him, from a black man who drank water in the trash can to an egalitarian who respects black people.

The second is that people must learn to think instead of blindly obeying. A life without thinking is not worth living. Concepts are very scary things. The so-called mediocrity refers to people who blindly follow some unthought-out concepts. For example, the hypocritical southern white people in "Green Book", the rich people who open parties at home, the restaurant owner, have a set of surfaces and a set of hearts. In their eyes, Dr. Shelley is no different from a piano. They are all used to decorate props for your own lintel. And the clerk in a clothing store is the kind of person who most never thinks about life. They never thought about the simple question of why black people couldn't try on suits, but blindly followed unreasonable social customs and laws. Tony is rough and his family is not middle class, but they are more genuine and more willing to embrace common sense. This is the hope of mankind.

Over the years, I have worked hard to let go of my stereotypes, and I have tried to understand people who are contrary to my own ideas, and have a deeper understanding of each other with some people. Although it does not change each other's concept, this understanding allows me to have a broader perspective. I am very grateful. But there are also many friends who follow the fake news of the propaganda agency, and would rather believe in an evil propaganda agency than believe in the truth seen on the scene by friends who have known each other for many years. These kinds of people are like the restaurant owner in "Green Book", the backwaters Just like the police officers, they are a group of human beings who keep their eyes closed, and they don’t need to expect to reconcile with these people because of better understanding, because with the behavior and habits of such people, reconciliation is impossible and unnecessary, and they don’t think much. , will only follow the mainstream, no matter what the mainstream is.

Dr. Shelley in "Green Book" was recognized and respected in the melting pot of New York, but he took the initiative to invite Ying to perform in the conservative South at the risk of his life. He took the first step bravely, but unfortunately, along the way, The white people in the South (the policeman, the restaurant owner, the rich man at home, the clerk in the clothing store) didn't understand and accept him, and Tony accepted him because Tony was actually a New Yorker too. The uniqueness of New York is that New York is a big city that gathers all kinds of people. It is a modern city that judges people not by their origin and skin color but by their ability. From primitive to modern, a place needs to be updated for generations. This process will have shocks and some people will feel uncomfortable, but in the end it will become a charming place that everyone likes.

A few more words about acting. In "Green Book", the actor Tony's performance is very good, because he has successfully portrayed an Italian-American underground man in New York. He is enthusiastic, cheerful, rough and fine, responsible, and has Jianghu Qi also has its own principles and bottom lines. A good actor will observe the character he wants to perform for a long time, find his characteristics, and then perform it in details. For example, Tony, he will habitually mention it every time he stands up. Pants up, straight up - he's a big eater who can eat 26 hamburgers. In "The Crown", the actors who played the Queen in the first two seasons must have watched the Queen's videos. She played the Queen's walking, the way she looked at people with her head tilted, her eyes, and the posture of her bag. It was very expressive, Fasspin De's Steve Jobs is also at the same level of performance. He doesn't look like Steve Jobs at all, but by understanding and figuring out the role and watching the video of Steve Jobs's death, he captured the soul. In the whole movie, you think this is Steve Jobs. Watching this kind of performance is a real pleasure.
