"Rick and Morty" The first reaction of anyone who has seen this film is that the brain hole is very big--to the edge of the universe, and then there is a trace of sadness, a kind of sadness that comes from nihilism.
Although R&M is an unscrupulous late-night party drama, its absurd appearance hides a fragile little heart of a philosopher. After watching a few episodes, I can deeply feel a powerless sadness. Rick seems to be wild and unruly, but he always carries a lonely heart and the deepest love for his family.
A YouTuber blogger once spent a long time analyzing the nihilism (English: Nihilism) in R&M.
In S01E06, Morty and Rick turned the people of planet C137 into a mutated state, the world of Cronenberg. Of course, the fuse that led to all this was the Fascinating Potion + Restoration Potion that rick made to allow Morty to soak in Jessica. Rick takes Morty directly into a parallel universe where Cronenberg's world is restored and he is blown up. After Rick and Morty, buried the world's own body in the back garden, disguised itself, and integrated into family life. When I saw the two of them bury their bodies in the backyard, a sense of depression and meaninglessness surrounded me.
With Mazzy Star's "Look On Down from the Bridge", Morty walked past his parents who were still arguing, and saw his sister and Rick, who had nothing to do with it, sitting on the sofa watching TV, he sat down, and the camera was pulled from his point of view. came back, leaving his empty and hopeless eyes.
Really, it feels pointless.
But in a later episode, Morty said these words to his sister Summer who was angry and wanted to run away from home, which can be regarded as the first episode of the show.
And every morning, Summer, I eat breakfast twenty yards away from my own rotting corpse. [...] Nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, everybody's gonna die. Come watch TV?”
Every morning, Summer, I sit 20 yards from my body and eat breakfast. There is no purpose in man's appearance, man does not belong to any place, and everyone dies. Come on, let's watch TV together.
Later, in a video explaining Rick and Morty, our lovely and charming ball Dan Harmon appeared on the scene, mentioned this scene again, and gave the most perfect and inspiring explanation of the nihilism of the show:
life is really meaningless
This idea can actually save you from those bad times
Once you get past those horrible facts and accept it
That anywhere is the center of the universe
everything is the meaning of the universe
This is the stroke of genius.
Eggy also said that the existence of the world is indeed meaningless, and the existence of human beings is meaningless, which is a correct fact, but it does not work. In other words, it's the right idea but it doesn't work for you, so do whatever you want, wherever and whenever it is the center of the universe, the meaning of life. Even if you are a nihilist, you must face life head-on. As Romain Rolland said, there is only one true heroism in the world, and that is to still love life after recognizing the truth of life. ,
Bon appétit!
I wish you all the best to eat and sleep well.
// This review was made after watching the first season and some behind-the-scenes videos in 2018. Three years later, when I look back at this article, the message the play is trying to convey still inspires me to realize that all this is a dimension; and to do this, I truly surrender to the changing world and the unchanging present. Another dimension that I am still climbing. //
