A beginning without a sign, an end without a sign

This film is a very important milestone in my life experience. Because I watched this film after the opening ceremony of the graduate school. It felt fantastic that the film after the opening ceremony showed The Battle of the Worlds, not the days of leaving Lei Feng, or Liu Hulan. . .

The cast of the film itself is very strong, Tom Hanks, the little loli Dakota Fanning at the time, and the master Spielberg sits. It can be said that this combination basically locked the box office of War of the Worlds (in the end, the global box office of this film was close to 600 million US dollars, which was indeed a great achievement at the time). But I personally think that on the one hand, this film deviates from the plot of the original to a great extent, and on the other hand, it does not reflect the profound thinking about human society and technology. Popcorn slices, although popular, are hardly a classic.

The film puts too much content on the ravages of aliens on Earth. It has to be said that this part reflects the superb shooting skills and the rendering of the terrifying atmosphere. Whether it is the white light launched by the alien ship to shoot the earthlings at the beginning, or the beast-like plundering and killing of the earthlings, it leaves people behind. The psychological shadow is so deep that in the second half of the film, when you hear the sound of the Mars ship launching, you will have a bad premonition. In the second half of the film, the Martian sneaks out of the ship alone, and the plot of hiding and hiding with the protagonist brings this chilling fear to the extreme. This plot, which is very similar to Jurassic Park's raptors chasing and killing children, once again shows Si Dao's unique understanding and ability to demonstrate the oppressive fear of survival.

The devastation of the Martians on Earth is the theme of the film, which takes up nearly 90% of the entire story. Although it shows the scene of grief and sorrow after the Martians invaded the earth very well, but the core connotation of science fiction movies is not reflected. You need to tell me why Mars is invading Earth and why is it now? For this question, the original book actually has a very comprehensive answer, but the explanation given in this film is a bit nondescript.

The film believes that the Martians buried the fighting machine on the earth very early, and after a long time, the pilot will be sent to the pre-buried machine by lightning to implement the invasion plan. This rough setting is full of doubts:

1. Why do Martians use equipment from thousands of years ago? If there was a war, would you fight with a sword that was thousands of years old? Hasn't Martian technology changed for thousands of years?

2. Why did the Martian invasion happen now, not when they buried the ship? Really, if according to the law of the dark forest, it is targeted by such a powerful race, why is human beings still fortunate enough to develop so far?

3. Why did the Martians invade the earth, and what did they like about the earth?

It is a pity that the creators did not give satisfactory answers to these questions about building the structure of the entire film's worldview. The profound thinking about human social science and extraterrestrial life has been transformed into the theme of deep fatherly love and perseverance, which is pleasing to all sides and politically correct.

Just like the treatment of the original book, when alien life ravaged the earth and killed the Quartet, they suddenly disappeared. The reason is that they have not evolved the ability to resist the bacteria of the earth, so they are all defeated by the bacteria. . .

Well, I can actually accept this kind of plot, but can it be paved in the main plot (the first two Martians who ran out of the cockpit to play on the earth were not alive and kicking, how come it didn’t take long for this to happen? died?). This kind of plot without any foreshadowing is full of doubts. One second is still worrying about the fate of mankind, lamenting how such a powerful opponent can defeat, and the other side will die without fighting. . . Lie to win?
