In the middle of the 22nd century, the earth did not become a better place with the advancement of civilization and technology, but instead became a hopeless wasteland of ruins under the influence of various greed. A few extremely wealthy people abandoned their hometowns, built a paradise-like paradise on a space station floating on the earth, and continued to live a luxurious and happy life. And the vast majority of the poor have to stay on a ravaged earth, lingering in hopeless chaos, while being forced to endure the oppression of all kinds of harsh and ridiculous federal regulations. They work hard to earn a thin livelihood under the industrial system established by the rich, and sometimes look up to the sky, dreaming of immigrating to the space station and starting a new life. Helpless, under the strong control of the government official Delacourt (Jodie Foster), the stowaways turned into pieces in the universe again and again.
Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary person who is exposed to strong radiation at work, will die in five days unless he uses the advanced medical system of the space station. Even if there is only a glimmer of life, we must advance towards the world of bliss...

Elysium quotes

  • Dr. Faizel: Frey, you know, we've done everything we could to help your daughter. I had a meeting today with the board and they recommend we send her home with you.

Frey: How can I work here and leave her at home? You know, it can happen any time, Dr. Faizel.

Dr. Faizel: I know. If she has another seizure, of course bring her back to the ward, of course. But until then, she's discharged. This isn't Elysium. We can't just heal her.

  • Delacourt: I'm not interested in your little ideas. I'm interested in something much larger. This habitat is dying. There is a political sickness inside of it. A tumor that needs to be removed. You and your company are in need of revenue... that is dying up. So... you built the torus. Can you override the servers and place a new president in power?

John Carlyle: A coup?... Are you suggesting a coup?

    Delacourt: Is it possible?

John Carlyle: I could write a reboot sequence and shut down the entire system. And at that point... you could encode a new president, yes.

Delacourt: Then that is what you will do. And you will have your contract secured for the next 200 years. Missile defense batteries, droids. Everything we need to protect our liberty. All guaranteed, of course, by your new president.
