Good movie with tears in laughter

I like this movie so much, I feel that five stars are not enough to express my love for it, it is warm and touching, and I laugh with tears.

In Jackson, Mississippi, at the forefront of the race wars, generations of black maids served white families. After graduating from Skeeter University, the girl returned to her hometown of Jackson, applied for a job in the local "Jackson Daily", and responded to readers' letters in the home economics column. Taking the opportunity to ask her friend Elizabeth's maid, Apollyn, for advice on household chores, Skeeter wanted to write a novel based on the stories of these maids. Apollyn resists at first, and there are people around her who have been killed for violating the so-called rules for people of color. Skeeter could only sneak into Apollin's house to hear her tell the stories of what happened to her. Apollin's friend Minnie is fired by her employer, Sealy, for using the house's toilet on a rainy night. She also decided to tell her own story.

Apollin's employer, Elizabeth, doesn't like her child May, and won't even hug her. May said to Apollin, you are my real mother. Just when Skeeter was about to give up because the number of interviewees was too small to meet the publisher's requirements, Apollin told her about the tragic death of her son. The 24-year-old son was thrown into a van by a white man at the door of a black hospital after he fell at work, and finally died of incurability. Just after Apollin's friend Evers was killed for participating in the civil rights movement, more and more maids came to her home and agreed to tell their stories.

Minnie's employer, Sealy, is the president of the local women's association and has a certain prestige among local white girls. She was a staunch supporter of racism, bitter and arrogant. It was she who proposed to build a separate toilet for black people outside the house. She believed that the maid was not even fit to use the guest toilet. Ironically, she could rally the community to raise money for Africa without giving her maid a penny for her twin sons to go to college. In order to retaliate for Hilly's dismissal, Minnie put her shit in the chocolate pie she made, and because of this, she could no longer find a job, so she had to let her 14-year-old daughter drop out of school to continue working as a maid. The only one who doesn't know the news is Celia, who is "isolated" by everyone, so she hires Minnie. She originally hired Minnie just to make her delicious food while her husband Jonny was working during the day, and then told Jonny that he made it when he got home. However, Celia has established a deep friendship in contact with Minnie. She can eat at the same table in the kitchen as Minnie without scruples. When Celia had a miscarriage, it was Minnie who was with her through that difficult time. I think the reason why Jonny broke up with Celia and chose Celia was precisely because of Celia's purity and kindness. Celia ended up telling her husband all the truth, and she cooked a table for Minnie that Mia had taught her. With the encouragement of Celia, Minnie chose to leave her abusive husband with her child. She can finally be hired by Celia justifiably. Minnie and Celia's friendship is touching.

Before the novel is nearly finished, Skeeter decides to include his own maid's story in the book, so be sure to ask her mother's maid, Constantine, why she left. Constantine served the Stucky family for 29 years, and she raised Stucky. When she was a child and despised her ugliness because she couldn't find a dance partner, Constantine told her, don't care what other people think of you, people with unhealthy hearts are ugly. Mom told Stucky what happened. At a banquet after she was elected to the local Council of Women of America, Constantine's daughter Rachel came to her, was turned away and broke into the banquet alone. The head of the local committee said to Mother Skeeter, how can you bear it. Mother Skeeter also felt that Constantine was getting older and duller. So, taking this opportunity, Constantine was kicked out of the house together with his daughter. When Skeeter's brother travels to Chicago to find Constantine, she learns that she has died. Skeeter said to her mother, You broke her heart. When I saw this, I burst into tears.

The novel "Help" was published as desired. Personally, I think the meaning of the title of the book is because the maid is called help in English, and the other meaning should be that the maid helps the white family to manage the housework, and this time the author wants to help the maid express their feelings. After the novel was published, Skeeter was accepted by the New York Press. He thought it would be a happy ending, but he didn't want Hillary to give up insulting the maid. She came to Elizabeth's house, claimed that the cutlery she had lent Elizabeth was missing, which had been stolen by Apollin, and threatened to call the police. Under pressure from Hillie, Elizabeth could only dismiss Apollin. Aiboline reluctantly said goodbye to May. May was the last child in Epolyn's care, and she later chose to become a writer.

The film is adapted from real events, and the theme is still the story between black and white races, which is also one of the eternal themes of American movies, but excellent works appear frequently. We may not be able to understand racial contradictions, but respect, understanding and love between people are always the common emotions of human beings.
