The Dangerous Gospel——After Viewing "Dead Poets Society"
2018/2/16 Kang Yuchen
On New Year's Eve, I lost half of the Spring Festival Gala, which was as beautiful as ever, and watched this "Dead Poets Society" with my parents. After watching it, I can put it in one sentence: When I wanted to travel back to my high school, I gave this film Amway to me back then.
Or, in fact, it should be Amway for our generation.
I told my mother, how can people be so good in school, everyone talks about poetry, about love, the self of secondary school is bright, I think it is not purified. Mother said that it was purified, but her school experience in the 1980s believed that at that time it was really as good as secondary school. This is probably an interesting intergenerational experience, so let's keep it in mind.
Also, I really wish I had a Mr. Keating at the time. He could understand everything and break it right away. When he didn't say anything, he was also a warm teacher everywhere. When I watched the beginning, I was worried that this was an Amway romantic who "getting drunk and dying", but when the student was stunned to confront the school, he wisely stopped it. This gentleman really thought about the students.
Mr. Keating is justified, but his teaching career will not end well, just like the good teacher in "Spring in the Cattle Class" also leaves as the ending, I think this is a thoughtful movie. It doesn't just tell us that the truth of poetry is true, it tells us that the truth of poetry is fragile, that truth is always somewhat utopian, that it is unlikely that we will live completely by it. Sometimes poetry is a poignant truth that offends the world, but is the world wrong? Not really, the world has worldly difficulties and warmth, just like Neil's father wanted his son to study medicine because he loved his son and wanted to give him the best life he thought. No, the world is not evil. It's a pity that these students are too young, and they can't sort out the layers for a while. And Mr. Keating understands the existence of these reefs, but in the end he can't deal with it properly, so there is tragedy.
I love the ending of the film, where the students risk punishment collectively to pay a final tribute to Mr Keating, the picture freezes on the facial expressions of the expelled English teacher, who is relieved, and the film comes to an abrupt end. No punishment can stop this group of young people from paying tribute to the truth of poetry, but there is also no truth in poetry that can resurrect the dead, speak to the school, and thus wash away their stigma. The combination of these two aspects is our reality. The film does not give superficial reunion, nor is it angry with the youth, it knows the limits and knows the limits, and this is a good film with a sound mind.
I can't go back to the past to heal my former secondary school, but I think I will recommend this movie to every boy and girl who says they want to watch a movie. I think everyone who can watch this movie is blessed.
