"The Bitterness in the Iron King"

In war films, the story and the war scene are always at odds. Although a film like "Black Hawk Down" has a tight rhythm, it is actually a battlefield documentary, with no story content, and I don't see any difference in depth. And "Fury" is a rare war movie with plots and scenes.
The story of "Fury" is basically not a story, that is, a day of hard work for a tanker. Brother Pete's tank unit suffered heavy casualties in an encounter, and only Brother Pete's crew was able to move, and there was also a co-pilot in Brother Pete's crew. Big Brother Pete returned to the base, added a new recruit and embarked on this difficult journey.
Brother Pete and several other car groups formed a temporary platoon and were ordered to support the infantry unit. On the way, they encountered a sneak attack by the Nazi youth army, and the platoon leader was attacked. The five-car platoon became four, and Big Brother Pete became the commander. Big Brother Pete went to the infantry and accepted the first assignment, supporting a suppressed infantry platoon. This scene was quite shocking. After the tank troops arrived at the exhibition area, the formation was expanded from marching columns to horizontal ones. Tank units cover the advance of the infantry, taking in skirmishers as they advance. Before the enemy machine guns opened fire, Big Brother Pete had been sticking his head out of the tank to observe the target. After encountering the enemy, assign tasks to each crew. After the driver found the target, he used the tracer to indicate the target to the tank gunner. Use different types of ammunition for different targets. During the whole process, the tank kept moving at a low speed, which effectively reduced the accuracy of the German anti-tank guns. The four tanks successfully eliminated the two anti-tank guns and then covered the infantry to suppress the German infantry in the trenches. The rest of the battle is like slaughter.
Before the battle, the captain of the U.S. military said the mission was very difficult. Big Brother Pete asked where the observation post was before accepting the mission. I think it's a pity for Big Brother Pete to be a non-commissioned officer. The entire battle lasted very short. And the Americans have always been suppressing quick fights and quick withdrawals, without any hesitation.
The battle that followed was the Battle of the Town. The Germans had heavy machine guns and anti-tank guns, but in urban combat, it was all clouds. Big Brother Pete hit snipers with high-explosive rounds and anti-tank guns with incendiary rounds. The effect is very obvious in the film. Two tanks in the city staggered forward, covering each other and shooting dead ends. In addition, Brother Pete put his head outside the tank during the war. When the tank behind him was about to fire, he reminded Brother Pete first. Pete got into the tank to prevent jumping eggs. The film depicts the details of tank operations very deeply.
The last two battles were a bit like an anti-Japanese drama. Brother Pete was ordered to defend the intersection, only to encounter a sneak attack by a Tiger, and one Tiger killed three Shermans. Within a few hundred meters, Sherman's shells tickled the tiger. At zero range, Sherman's gunner missed the target. The last battle was an anti-Japanese drama.
The battle in the early stage of the film mainly showed the tactics of the tank platoon, and the more it went, the more concentrated it was in the tank crew. In the film, the crew members are tense and orderly in combat. The commander observes the target, instructs the gunner on the target, and arranges the loader to select the appropriate type of ammunition. The loader is the most simple-minded and low-quality in the car. During combat, the gunner selects the shells and adjusts the fuze according to the instructions. The gunner aims at the target according to the instructions. Instructed, the commander observes the target and corrects the gunner's firing. The commander instructs the driver to maneuver between reloads. The driver driving the tank is definitely a tough job. The division of labor in the entire combat process is clear, and each order is specific to the individual. The crew members did not panic. After encountering the tiger, they fired a smoke bomb first. The smoke bomb seriously interfered with the tiger's aiming and bought time for the formation of the tank. When there was no way to retreat, the three Shermans rushed towards the tiger without saying a word, shooting as they advanced. In a move-to-move design, the accuracy of both hits is low. Between battles, the crew moved shells from other locations on the tank to near the loader.
In the film, Big Brother Pete confirmed the truth that kindness does not control the army. In the film, Pitt also beats and scolds the recruits. Soldiers with different personalities can also face people and be ghosts behind their backs. He and recruits can pretend to be young literary and artistic youths, and He-old soldiers are like a hooligan boss. The tank was hit by a mine during the final mission. Brother Pete arranged for the loader and driver to repair the tank. Let the co-pilot do the most dangerous observation post. Slap and give a sweet date. At this time, it is not often to give new recruits a field ration, but first, you have to take good care of your subordinates. In fact, this is the same as killing wine. The recruit nearly fell asleep as an observation post, and he wasn't really fit for the job. It's just because he is the most insignificant figure in the entire crew. Without others, he can't fight, and the crew can barely fight without him.
The film also used a satirical expression method for the SS. SS officers forced teenage girls into battle, hanged civilians who wanted to surrender, and snipers killed old men who led the way for Americans. American tanks came and surrendered themselves. The same thing was done by the Imperial Japanese Army on Okinawa, forcing civilians to commit suicide and then surrender themselves. Think about how many people are catching traitors online all day long. On the day Master Wang entered the city, there were a few who were able to die for the country. The cannon fodder tasks in the film are all done by teenagers. Moreover, he had no common sense when fighting, and even maintained a marching formation in the war zone. Sing while marching!
From the theme of the film, the understanding of war has a depth. The battlefield is not an idyllic duel between knights. Everyone in the film is dirty, with blood and oil on their bodies. The tank platoon leader shaves his beard before going to the battlefield and is laughed at by other commanders. There is basically no human nature on the battlefield. I think it is more appropriate for the films to be called "The Bitterness in the Iron King".

Fury quotes

  • Wardaddy: [Norman has just killed his first enemy soldiers] Norman. It wasn't nothin,' right?

    Norman Ellison: Come again, Sergeant?

Wardaddy: Rubbin' out those Heinies. Splashed 'em real good. Wasn't nothin,' right?

Norman Ellison: [With an odd look in his eyes] Sure, Sergeant. Yeah, it wasn't nothin.' Fact, I kinda liked it.

  • Trini 'Gordo' Garcia: [Deleted scene] Our tanks are shitboxes. German guns punch through them like butter. We get hit, we're gonna burn, burn up fast. You see that hatch right behind you? We get hit, I'm gone, right through there. I'm not waiting for you, and I'm not helping you. Got that?

Norman Ellison: Yeah, I got it. Thank you.
