The city of San Francisco wakes up early every day, and the streets are crowded with people working hard for their lives and dreams. Black youth Chris Gardner lives in the city with his wife Linda and 5-year-old son Christopher. Every day he carries a medical device that looks like a time machine and sells it hard to doctors, but he hasn't sold one for a long time.
For rent, living expenses, his son's tuition, and even who to pick up his son from school, his wife inevitably quarrelled with Chris, and his heart was full of anxiety. Chris will always remember the day he passed a gleaming building and everyone who came out looked super happy. He pulled a man in a sports car and asked him what job he had to do to live like this. The man said he was a stockbroker and told him that as long as he was good at numbers and people, he could do the job. Chris thought he was up to the job and applied to a securities firm for a job as a stockbroker, but his wife balked at it.
The wife, who could not bear the pressure of life, suddenly left with her son. At Chris's most desperate moment, he was called for an interview. Through negotiation with his wife, Chris began to raise his son alone, but life is still embarrassing. He was detained overnight for failing to pay his car ticket in time, and sprinted to his interview the next morning in a suit covered in paint. He finally got the chance to become an intern, but only one of the 20 interns ended up getting that position, and the 6-month internship was unpaid.
Because he wanted to realize his dream and become a hero in his son's eyes, Chris decided to accept the challenge. In order to pick up his son from school on time, Chris has to complete 9 hours of other people's work within 6 hours, never hang up on the phone just to save 8 minutes a day, and try not to drink water to avoid going to the toilet. On weekends he takes his son to sell medical equipment or meet potential clients. However, 4 months later, he sold all the instruments without signing a financial contract.
But he never let go of his son's education. Once the father and son were playing basketball on the rooftop. He thought that he had no talent for playing basketball, and his son should not waste too much time on it. Although the son was not convinced, he still agreed. Seeing his son Yu Zu's expression, Chris suddenly felt something. He told his son, "Never let anyone tell you what you can't do, not even me. If you have a dream, defend it."
Seeing their lives improve, the sudden tax collection , but made him suddenly bankrupt. After being kicked out of the motel, they were left homeless. He made up a fairy tale of a time machine for his son and slept in the toilet of the subway with his son in his arms. And when someone knocked on the door, the only thing he could do was cover his son's ears tightly and shed tears silently. In order to get the limited emergency beds and food at the church, he had to leave work early every day to line up and quarrel with the homeless. In the dim light of the hallway repairing the last instrument that was lost, reviewing the content of the next day's exam.
Finally, he overcame all the difficulties and got the job of his dreams. At that moment, there were tears of excitement in his eyes, and his hands trembled so much that he couldn't even hold the book steady. He flew out of the company, ran to the kindergarten where his son was studying, and hugged his son tightly in his arms. Yes, life sometimes makes us embarrassed, but if we have a dream, we should protect it well. Don't pass up any possible opportunity, keep smiling and silent, because tomorrow the sun will rise as usual and we can run forward again.
Chris plays a typical American dream story. The reason why the American Dream is moving is because everyone has the right to pursue happiness and fair competition. The society will not care too much about your skin color and background. As long as you are really capable and willing to work hard, you will have a chance to succeed. We are now advocating the Chinese Dream, and its connotation is almost the same. However, we are more looking forward to a more diverse, just and tolerant social environment. Of course, whether it is the American dream or the Chinese dream, the most important thing is to have a "dream" in your heart, because only with a dream can there be infinite hope.
