This movie looks like an elegy for humanity

I finally watched Son of Man, the source of the film is 11G. As a result, I have not been admitted to the mobile device, and I have been procrastinating to watch it. After watching it tonight, I realized that there is a reason why it is so big. Cuaron's camera and lens skills are really good, and I think with this skill and ability, no matter what story is told (refer to Wes Anderson), or no story is told (refer to Wong Kar-wai), the film is a good film.

But, what I'm trying to say is that his footage can tell a story by itself. Several long shots (which are famous scenes) have no lines or even music, but they can still express the emotions you want to convey and the stories you want to tell. This is advanced. There are too many famous scenes, but when I came out of the refugee building with a baby and everyone put down their weapons, I could see that I was in real tears.

In addition to the long shots in the whole film, what impressed me the most was the music of the opera, the sympathetic and atmospheric singing, as if singing an elegy to all mankind. The movie is about a human in 2027 who is infertile. It was a time when life was extremely precious, and the death of a child could cause all human beings to cry. It was also an era when life was extremely low, because every moment of war caused countless people to die. This tension of opposites keeps me tense and conflicted while watching the film. Since human beings are already at such a dead end, why do they still kill each other? Even the precious newborn baby in the world has become a weight for political confrontation. Cuaron's critique of society and human nature is as sharp as ever, and as always, there is no answer. who knows! Maybe human beings are so inferior!

Cuaron used an all-black screen at the beginning and end of the film, accompanied by the sound of children playing, you can say it is a reminiscence of the past, or it can be said that there is still hope for the future. From the point of view of the expression technique, the finishing touch gave up the powerful picture and only used the sound to express it. I think the director knows the truth of overdoing it, and will not abuse his own technology. Everything only serves the story. Restraint is a rare quality, restraint will make talent more prominent.

After watching this one, the "want to watch" list of the previous Cuaron movies is all finished. Every time I watch more, I think he's a little more powerful. Anyway, I have a good look at every one of them, I feel very cool.

Children of Men quotes

  • Luke: [his last line] I had a sister...

  • Jasper: Everything is a mythical, cosmic battle between faith and chance.

    [offers Miriam a joint]

    Miriam: Maybe I shouldn't.

Jasper: You already did. Take another one. Now cough. What do you taste?

    Miriam: Strawberries!

Jasper: Strawberries? That's what it's called: Strawberry Cough!

    Kee: Wicked!

Jasper: So. You've got faith over here, right? And chance over there.

    Miriam: Like yin and yang.

    Jasper: Sort of.

    Miriam: Or Shiva and Shakti.

    Jasper: Lennon and McCartney!

Kee: [looking at pictures] Look, Julian and Theo.

Jasper: Yeah, there you go! Julian and Theo met among a million protestors in a rally by chance. But they were there because of what they believed in in the first place, their faith. They wanted to change the world. And their faith kept them together. But by chance, Dylan was born.

Kee: [picks up another photo] This is him?

Jasper: Yeah, that's him. He'd have been about your age. Magical child. Beautiful. Their faith put in praxis.

    Miriam: "Praxis"? What happened?

Jasper: Chance. He was their sweet little dream. He had little hands, little legs, little feet. Little lungs. And in 2008, along came the flu pandemic. And then, by chance, he was gone. You see, Theo's faith lost out to chance. So, why bother if life's going to make its own choices?

    Kee: Baby's got Theo's eyes.

    Jasper: Yeah.

Miriam: Oh, boy. That's terrible. But, you know, everything happens for a reason.

Jasper: That, I don't know. But Theo and Julian would always bring Dylan. He loved it here.
