Children Of Men--The Hope To Living On

It's a movie from a long time ago, but it still looks powerful.

The world background of the film does not use a very dull introduction but integrates the world view into the life of the protagonist little by little: the death of the youngest human being in the world has made headlines, and everyone is hurt; the euthanasia drug advertisements that appeared (the final blow); the closure of border crossings implemented in the United Kingdom and the public service advertisements promoting the deportation of illegal immigrants... These small details let us slowly understand the world from the daily life of the protagonist, and more. It's good to understand this broken world from the perspective of a member of this world.

The protagonist, who is almost desperate for this world and has no fun in his own life, may be the last fun in life to send pressure to the only home in the deep mountains and forests of the only one. The reappearance of the protagonist's old lover makes the protagonist's life begin to change, and the story officially begins here. The main line of the whole movie is very clear, and the plot is not complicated and bizarre. However, this is a movie that speaks with details. In many cases, some inconspicuous shots, those flashing pictures, enrich the feelings of people in this and that world a little bit, let us integrate into that world a little bit and have entered an atmosphere of despair. Pets and animals, which appear at a high rate in the film, form a strong contrast in this film. Humans who have lost their ability to reproduce have gone to take care of their offspring while the time of human extinction is approaching. Increasingly lonely humans have found many pets to accompany them and replace their offspring. The other is to use pets' dependence on humans and the warmth between humans and pets to contrast with the despair of humans who have no descendants.

This world, which has been sterilized for nearly 30 years, has finally ushered in hope—a prostitute who is pregnant has appeared. Although he was a refugee who was not accepted by the UK, he was pregnant. This is quite an irony in a world where human beings have lost their spiritual support and everyone has fallen into collapse. Therefore, the leader of the uprising organization, the protagonist's former lover, Julie, does not want to tell this already deformed society but hopes to hand over the pregnant girl to the Human Project to continue the human race. To this end, Julie asked the protagonist to help. When the plan was about to be implemented, the people in the organization rebelled. The new leader was unwilling to hand over the pregnant Kee but wanted to use it as a symbol of the organization to strengthen the rebel army. So, Julie was killed in the mixtape. After the protagonist knew the purpose of the new leader, he brought Kee to his close friend's house for help. After the best friend arranged everything, the insurgent organization arrived. After sending off the protagonist and his party, the best friend used the distributed euthanasia drug to kill the wife, who was already in a vegetative state and also died in the hands of the insurgent army. After the protagonist and Kee come to the refugee camp, Kee gives birth to a girl. At this point, the police and insurgent groups have found Kee. After the final chaos, the protagonist and Kee finally arrive at the designated place, waiting for the arrival of the day. The scenes where the protagonist stayed temporarily when he found the boat and the scene where the baby's cry temporarily silenced the gunshots, both gave me a great shock. He is not only a baby, but also the hope of mankind.

Although it is unknown whether the protagonist died in the end, at least it is a good start. Finally, at the end of the film, the despair, fear, and gloomy atmosphere were swept away. Although the result is unknown, it is indeed a hopeful beginning.

This movie does not have a very soul-stirring plot; it only has a main line that is not very tortuous, and there is no great suspense; there is no grand background music, more of a slightly cheerful follow-up, and some natural sounds; camera shooting It is also very simple, but the application of the bloody scene can be said to be a bright spot.

In times of peace, if the most fundamental survival motivation of human beings is gone, then what kind of mentality do we need to face it?

Children of Men quotes

  • Luke: [his last line] I had a sister...

  • Jasper: Everything is a mythical, cosmic battle between faith and chance.

    [offers Miriam a joint]

    Miriam: Maybe I shouldn't.

Jasper: You already did. Take another one. Now cough. What do you taste?

    Miriam: Strawberries!

Jasper: Strawberries? That's what it's called: Strawberry Cough!

    Kee: Wicked!

Jasper: So. You've got faith over here, right? And chance over there.

    Miriam: Like yin and yang.

    Jasper: Sort of.

    Miriam: Or Shiva and Shakti.

    Jasper: Lennon and McCartney!

Kee: [looking at pictures] Look, Julian and Theo.

Jasper: Yeah, there you go! Julian and Theo met among a million protestors in a rally by chance. But they were there because of what they believed in in the first place, their faith. They wanted to change the world. And their faith kept them together. But by chance, Dylan was born.

Kee: [picks up another photo] This is him?

Jasper: Yeah, that's him. He'd have been about your age. Magical child. Beautiful. Their faith put in praxis.

    Miriam: "Praxis"? What happened?

Jasper: Chance. He was their sweet little dream. He had little hands, little legs, little feet. Little lungs. And in 2008, along came the flu pandemic. And then, by chance, he was gone. You see, Theo's faith lost out to chance. So, why bother if life's going to make its own choices?

    Kee: Baby's got Theo's eyes.

    Jasper: Yeah.

Miriam: Oh, boy. That's terrible. But, you know, everything happens for a reason.

Jasper: That, I don't know. But Theo and Julian would always bring Dylan. He loved it here.
