Let's count the settings similar to EVA in the film

After reading all kinds of discussions about "Pacific Rim", I found that the first thing that popped into my mind when watching the movie was EVA. At the same time, I also saw a lot of people open their mouths and put this film and EVA (" Neon Genesis Evangelion) is a sign of confusion and annoyance. Both attitudes are understandable. I think this film has indeed constructed its own unique and complete worldview and various settings. No matter how many similarities there are, there are no identical works. It is even more worthy of recognition that it has carried out a complete and wonderful narrative within a short film length. However, for me, who has just completed EVA and has a fairly complete memory, I did see a lot of similarities with EVA from the mecha manipulation mode and world view settings in the film. Behind the scenes, there are indeed a large number of Japanese manga staff involved in the specific settings in the film. So there are indeed some elements that have been borrowed from various works, including EVA. I think it is also an objective and not surprising evaluation. I know a lot about EVA and I am deeply impressed. I really can see a lot of references. In addition, I think it would be good enough if a live-action movie of EVA was made like this, but there is no ATField setting. It would be really a pity...

not much to say, the following are some similarities that I think of, which can be regarded as a kind of interest for EVA fans to interpret the film~

Format: Elements in Pacific Rim - Elements in Eva

The yellow liquid discharged from the helmet after the driver puts on the helmet - LCL liquid

The head of the mecha with the cockpit is installed - the cockpit plug

is drift system - the consciousness synchronization system
For example, if the machine is damaged, the same part of the human will feel it To the pain, there is a high risk of fighting, which is the same in the setting.

Synesthesia for two people, synchronous combat - EVA's TV version of the synchronous battle of Shinji Nakaji and Asuka, the synchronous battle of Shinji and Zhu Kaoru in the new theatrical version of Q in Unit 13
When watching EVA, I always felt that synchronous combat is so cool, and it tests the tacit understanding of the partners. The effect of making it into a real person must be very cool! ~As expected, it feels very cool to work together in PR, although it does not surpass the impression in my mind of the synchronization between Shinji and Asuka God in EVA, but synchronization is really something that can be seen anytime and anywhere. It feels cool. What's more, the synchronization rate can actually calculate the specific number.

The "Chasing Rabbit" in the driver's consciousness - the "spiritual pollution" of the driver

Hong Kong battlefield - the 1st to 5th generation monsters in the third new Tokyo city

- the first shock of the apostles, the second shock, the Nth shock... ...

As mentioned in the film, some people think that those monsters are sent by God to take revenge on mankind - the moving frame on the head of the mecha, the imaginary source of the apostles in the EVA -

the moving frame on the head of the EVA rising to the place,
although the moving direction is different, but that The mobile rack is almost identical. Regardless of whether there are only a handful of helicopters in PR to lift thousands of tons of mecha hunters or not, the way of falling from the sky in every battle is cool enough! Here, the way of appearing in PR is to fall, and in EVA, it is to rise.

Fighting methods: Knives, guns, hand-to-hand combat, close combat (both are the same)
. The watch bridges that fix the robot are at the place where the head and the body are connected.
They are all evacuating people to the underground safe place first, freeing up the boundary for the mecha to fight monsters.

Black head, male pig's feet, female pig's feet,? - Commander Ikari, Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, and Asuka who have been "completed" (don't ask me which one of the PRs Asuka corresponds to, just think about it)

In fact, friends who like EVA can do it for both This is a comparison. Friends who haven’t seen or don’t like EVA don’t have to care about others taking EVA. After all, audiences all want to maximize the fun of watching movies, and making further comparisons and interpretations is also a way to enjoy the fun of movies~
Finally, let me talk about my impression of the "EVA version" of this film: this is a positive energy version of EVA that has been "completed"! I really feel that if there is an ATField setting, this film can be a masterpiece, and the cheers in the theater can be doubled again...
In any case, I think this film and EVA are great, and this film has far surpassed I look forward to it.

Pacific Rim quotes

  • Raleigh Becket: This is worth fighting for. We don't have to just obey him.

Mako Mori: It's not obedience, Mr. Becket; it's respect.

  • [first lines]

Raleigh Becket: [narrating] When I was a kid, whenever I'd feel small or lonely, I'd look up at the stars. Wondered if there was life up there. Turns out I was looking in the wrong direction. When alien life entered our world, it was from deep beneath the Pacific Ocean. A fissure between two tectonic plates. A portal between dimensions. The Breach. I was fifteen when the first Kaiju made land in San Francisco.

    [pause]

Raleigh Becket: By the time tanks, jets and missiles took it down, six days and 35 miles later, three cities were destroyed. Tens of thousands of lives were lost. We mourned our dead, memorialized the attack, and moved on. And then, only six months later, the second attack hit Manila.

Newscaster: [on TV] The acid factor of the Kaiju blood creates a toxic phenomenon known as Kaiju Blue

Raleigh Becket: Then the third one hit Cabo. And then the fourth. And then we learned this was not gonna stop. This was just the beginning. We needed a new weapon. The world came together, pooling it's resources and throwing aside old rivalries for the sake of the greater good. To fight monsters, we created monsters of our own. The Jaeger program was born.
