But even in such a beautiful town, Angel, with professional sensitivity, smelled something wrong. One after another, seemingly reasonable accidents, make people shudder. Behind the peaceful town, there are amazing sins and secrets.
Despite being ridiculed, obstructed and questioned, and even nearly taking his life, Angel still did not back down. He finally discovers the truth about the town. It turned out that a dozen or so old and middle-aged people in power in the town formed the council of elders, secretly controlling the order of the town. They got rid of the people they felt were against the customs and order of the town. Dirty sewers are littered with dead bodies. And the reason they died was simply because: she laughed so badly, he acted so badly, his house didn't match our style, his newspaper was full of typos, and she was moving out of town... One after another unbelievable reason, it sounds terrifying.
Of course, the story has a happy ending. Angel finally persuaded his diehard chubby cop, turned against the other cops who came to arrest them, defeated the Presbyterians together, and brought the town back to life.
Much of the story ahead is like a suspense movie. Angel was too depressed for most of the time, especially when he told the police that he saw the murderer, but was laughed at and said that he might be the murderer. In his anger and helplessness, he finally understood his former detective. Causes of neurological disorders. Actor Simon Pegg's eyes and expressions at that time were really in place. I was worried that he would go crazy because of this, and the story would end in a dark place. After all, such dark ending movies are not without criminal records. Fortunately, he survived and successfully resisted. The more than 20-minute shootout that followed turned into an action movie, swept away the previous haze.
Under the dark humorous appearance of the film, it actually explores some very deep issues.
For example, lust under control and order. Evil often opens the way in the name of good. The old police chief told Angel that they did this to honor and help their deceased wife to fulfill her wish, and to make the town a better place, it seemed so righteous and awe-inspiring. However, behind it is their unconcealed desire for control. Under this desire for control, if he wants you to die, you have to die, and all that is sent is a crime. It's all Nazi stuff: you don't have to think, I'll do it for you, and I'm going to take your liberty away. Beneath the beautiful appearance of the town, there are many unjust souls buried.
For example, when the power of evil outweighs the power of good, where should justice come from? When Angel was chased and sent away, the chubby policeman shouted at him: No one will believe what you say, people will only believe the townspeople, not you! Faced with such a predicament, Angel only slumped for a short time, but finally insisted on his beliefs and returned to Stanford, because he believed that he was right. Even if we are in the minority, we cannot give in - because we are righteous.
Another example is the unstoppable rise of the new generation. Covered in black burqas, the Presbyterian members who can only appear at night are terrifying, but also weak. They control the town this way, but eventually someone will come out and break their rule. The new generation, including the police chief's son, the fat policeman, declared the end of their era at the moment of resistance.
Simon Pegg is the star and screenwriter of the film. Although I admired his performances in the 11th and 12th parts of "ster trek" before, but because of this movie, I completely fell in love with him. The editing of the movie is particularly good, clean and neat, never procrastination, and a lot of information is conveyed in just a few shots. Hope he can make more good movies in the future.
