Queens' Paradise Rhapsody: Cross-Border Online Exhibition

Kallie 2022-04-19 09:01:09

Let's talk about the little-known little things behind Queen's music through works of art, which is another form of easter egg.

1. /Made in Heaven/

In 1991, before I even started listening to Queen, Freddie left. Four years after his death, the band's fifteenth album, Made in Heaven, came out.

This piece is far less famous than those popular sales champions in the 1970s, but it is a must-have item for hardcore fans. If "The Show Must Go On" was Freddie's gorgeous curtain call, "Made in Heaven" was the final encore.

If you have been tired of hearing "We rock you" in the World Cup, you have also shouted "Mom, I killed a person" in karaoke, and you have used the chicken soup inspirational "must show up" in the workplace. Quotations, then you must listen to the encore before leaving your seat.

Every song reveals Freddie's deep nostalgia for life, and every lyric describes his exploration and hesitation about life and death.

He said:

It's a beautiful day, the sun shines, I feel so good; Let me live (Let me in heaven); but I read every page in the newspaper is death, thank God, My life has been saved; I was born to love you; Too much love will kill you; but before I die, I long for Peace (Mother love); now that winter is coming (a winter's tale), the red sky is shining, the seagulls are flying, the swans are flying, am I dreaming? This could be heaven.

The album's self-titled "Made in Heaven" is Freddie's old solo single, released on July 1, 1985. One of the lyrics is so beautiful: "It was meant to be, Written in the stars."

In the end, a soundtrack named "Untitled" is majestic and mysterious, and it evokes the soul, just like the soundtrack of the vast starry sky in a science fiction movie, I thought it was a response to the above lyrics.

Such tearful music resonated with a work of art in my mind.

No, not "Made In Heaven" by Jeff Koons, the Prince of Kitsch.

Made In Heaven (1989) Jeff Koons

This set of #Super Hot Eyes# series was created in 1989. The prince may have come up with such a theme after listening to Freddie's songs, but from the perspective of the work itself, apart from the name, the temperament and soul of the two are completely not on a channel.

The artwork in response to this song or this album is - "Assumption of the Virgin" by Antonio Allegri (as everyone calls him Correggio).

The Assumption of the Virgin (1530) Correggio

At the beginning of the 16th century, the Italian painter Correggio risked desecration in the Cathedral of Parma, using the "shortened perspective" technique to create an illusion of space, and perfectly upgraded the dome painting technique pioneered by Mantegna 50 years ago into a grander one. The "illusion painting" - surrounded by full clouds, floating and soaring angels, golden holy light from the zenith, surrounded by the Virgin Mary and descended to greet Jesus.

If we stand in the cathedral and look up, we will feel that the closed dome is open, the numerous characters and complex contents are not messy, and the line of sight is brought to the highest point like a tornado layer by layer, facing hope and looking at the boundless. .

Here, is the paradise of Freddie inquiring.

2. /Bicycle Race/

Such a sand sculpture of the second song, that is, the queens who stood in their thirties in the 1970s, sang the most.

i want to ride my bike
i want to ride my bike
Ride it wherever you like
If you say black, I will say white
If you yell at me, I'll bite

Ride as much as you like, just be sure to see what you are riding.

Riding With Death (1988) Jean-Michel Basquiat

Above is the last painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat before his sudden death from a drug overdose in 1988. Against a gritty background, a black-bladed man in red is riding a The bones seem to be a prophecy for themselves.

The style of this piece is markedly different from his best-selling and most sought-after works from 1981-1982. The colors have been reduced in brightness, not so bright and intense, and the brushstrokes are more concise, without the iconic crown, vocabulary and copyright marks, and lacking the wild childishness of the past, but he can feel his loss and loneliness. Maybe it was Andy Warhol's death that made him sad, maybe it was the luxury hotels in Beverly Hills that made him empty, maybe it was society that gave him the halo but still hidden prejudice against black identity that made him unhappy.

This wild boy from the middle class who hangs out on the streets of New York, starts like a gun battle and disappears like a firework, finally rides his bicycle and falls in love with where he goes.

3. /Lazing on a Sunday afternoon/

This is the soul dialogue between the Queens and Brumo Mars' "Lazy Song".

you go to work monday morning
Honeymoon on Tuesday
go for a bike ride every wednesday night
Thursday's plan is to visit the zoo
Painting a Friday night
Saturday is a good day to propose.

What about Sunday, where are you?

Oh, I saw you, on the island of the Grand Bowl in Paris, on the banks of the Seine full of tourists, on the ginger grass, under the master's skirt, arching his butt and lengthening his spine, lazily basking in the sun . Next to you, your little friend is eager to try, ready to run towards a big black man, you have no time and no intention to stop the little fool.

A Sunday Afternoon on the Ile de la Grande Jatte (1886) Georges Seurat

"Sunday on the Big Bowl Island" (the LEGO version above) relies on Georges Seurat to point it out one by one. When you zoom in, it looks like the smallest unit of primary color particles, but it can restore the entire world. How much patience, how many repetitions of monotonous and delicate movements, and how many strains it takes to fill the 7-square-meter canvas.

#On point color is a long practice#

4, /'39/

Space-themed songs, David Bowie has an entire album (The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars), while the Queens only have one: "'39".

Although there is only one song, but the story is very good. After all, it was written by astrophysicist Principal Mei, and it tells the same story as the movie "Interstellar".

A group of astronauts flew into space in 1939 to open up territory for mankind. After returning home, things changed. One hundred years have passed since the earth. The lovers of the astronauts have long passed away. One year older, leaving endless thoughts and calls.

Strandtur (2015)

Stoppestedet III (2018) + Stjernefisker (2014)

Tænkepause (2018)

The picture above is the work of the new Danish artist Thomas Juul Krahn. He used delicate and clean brushstrokes to depict a kind of "sci-fi realism" image. The astronauts in the painting seem to be the ones who returned to Earth in "'39", familiar The person who belonged to him is no longer there. From now on, he can only ride a bicycle, fish, take a walk, wait for a car, shepherd sheep, go out on a picnic... So lonely as if he is still wandering in the universe.

Don't you hear me calling you?

5. /Killer Queen/

The world's first beauty trick comes from the "Old Testament" of the Bible. It tells the story of the beautiful widow Judith in the city of Berturia. In order to resist the invasion of the enemy, she took her maid to the Assyrian army camp, under the guise of The offer won the trust of the commander-in-chief, Khrovnis, and aroused his admiration with his beauty, and later cut off his head while he was drunk. Without a commander, the Assyrian army was distraught, and naturally gave up the siege. And Judith returned to the city of Berturia with the head of the enemy and became a heroine.

Most of the Renaissance painters have created this theme, here is the work of the 17th century Caravaggio female painter Artemisia Gentileschi (Artemisia Gentileschi).

Judith Slaying Holofernes (1614-20) Artemisia Gentileschi

The strong chiaroscuro, the stage-like light and shadow, the dramatic gestures, especially the disgusting, indifferent, numb, and contemptuous expressions on Judith's face, this is where Judith's story is told, it's a complete reproduction Out of the life experience of Artemisie Jantneschi who was raped, questioned and humiliated, her female-themed works are often violent and dark, full of desire for revenge.

Killer Queen, it's gunpowder, it's gelatin, it's dynamite that emits laser light, it's Judith, it's also Artemisie.

6. /The show must go on/

It seems that most of the creative people, the closer they are to death, the more they want to express something. Thanks to Freddie for leaving "The show must go on", and thanks to the principal, Huahua and Jonghyun for publishing Made in Heaven for Freddie. But Keith Haring doesn't seem to be able to finish the show, with the last painting of his life ending in a quarter, leaving a void and no one coming to Go On.

My soul is painted with brilliant colors like butterfly wings
Yesterday's legend will change but not die
I can fly, friends
Unfinished painting (1989) Keith Haring

BTW, Keith Haring also died of AIDS.

RIP!

7. /Body Language/

Unanimously voted "Queen's most hated song" by fans, it's a bit hard to describe.

Its original sin is not that it is dirty, but that it shows a kind of fast-handed literary level of killing Matt youth in a small town.

give me your body
baby don't talk
don't say don't say don't say
Just move your body

Forget the metaphysical compliments, let alone the sexual liberation movement. Take it as Freddie's artistic record of his original impulses.

The Rococo of the 18th century is the Balala of the 21st century.

Youthful colors, exquisite details, sweet atmosphere, beautiful characters.

In the writings of the Rococo master Francois Boucher, the concubines in the palace were all slumped on sofas or cushions in a "split lying" position.

Read their body language, do you see purity.

8. /Love Of My Life/

Two men and women with the same soul, after a long time with each other, they drifted apart due to some force majeure in the universe, and finally decided to break up, but they still respect, miss and appreciate each other in their hearts - this is not just Freddie and Freddie. Mary's story is also the story of Marina Abramović and Ulay.

In 1988, the female performance artist and the male performance artist decided to complete their "break-up ceremony" with a performance art work due to various differences in creation and life.

The two set off from Shanhaiguan and Jiayuguan respectively, and walked towards each other on the Great Wall. Three months later, they met on Erlang Mountain and spent a night together. They waved goodbye the next day and continued to walk in their respective directions, only the more the figure became. They have come farther and farther, and since then, they have never been in contact with each other again.

The Lovers: The Great Wall Walk (1988) Abramović/Ulay

In 2010, at the MoMA showroom in New York, a 64-year-old female performance artist sat at a table for 736 hours and 30 minutes for two and a half months, receiving the "death gaze" of more than 1,700 strangers.

During this period, the female artist has remained as hollow as a rock, as calm as a rock. Until a 64-year-old man who was born on the same day in the same year in the same year appeared opposite her, the female artist first couldn't help smiling, and then slowly shed tears.

Ulay, who hasn't seen each other for 22 years, Love of my life, how are you?

9. /We Will Rock You/

Ladies and folks, the song below has Mr. Rembrandt performing for us in a series of self-portraits!

.

.

- The Leiden era:

The fledgling Rembrandt opened his own studio in his hometown of Leiden. Although there are not many orders, the future is full of hope. He began to study light and Caravaggio, and the young boy accumulated his own fame in each stroke of creation.

dude you noisy baby
Wandering in the streets, haven't grown up yet
Mud all over my face, embarrassed
Kick the jars all over the place
Sings:
We WillWe Will Rock You

.

.

- Amsterdam Times:

Amsterdam accepts Rembrandt.

He kept creating gorgeous portraits for his customers. He became famous, and the orders kept coming. The aristocratic world opened its doors to him, and fancy clothes, antiques and jewelry entered his mansion. In his eyes, the world was BlingBling's, and his appearance was cute. .

dude you stubborn little bitch
Talk on the street, take over the world
There's blood all over my face, it's embarrassing
pull the banner into the wind
Sings:
We WillWe Will Rock You

.

.

- The down-and-out era:

"Night Watch" brought a blow to his career, and the death of his relatives caused great pain. The old Rembrandt was trapped in the bear market of his life. When he could not afford it, his family property was auctioned and he passed away in poverty.

man you poor old man
Begging in the eyes, one day will be calm
The face is muddy, embarrassing
Better have someone take you home
just sing:
We WillWe Will Rock You

10, /The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke /

This rather unpopular song written by Freddie was inspired by an unfinished oil painting. The creator is Richard Dadd, a Victorian British painter, patricide mental patient.

In 1843, Richard Dadd was admitted to Bedlam Hospital for treatment after killing his father. He continued to work in the hospital, spending nine years on the work from 1855, but in 1864 he was transferred to the Broadmoor Asylum on the outskirts of London, and work on the painting ceased. Richard Dadd later wrote a poem to explain the intentions and metaphors in the painting, and mentioned the theme: "The Feller's Master Stroke" (The Master Stroke of the Lumberjack).

Since then, the unfinished work has had a full name.

The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke (1855-1864) Richard Dadd

More than a hundred years later, Freddie wrote a song of the same name based on the painting.

Maybe many people don't understand the lyrics inside:

Soldier SailorTinker Tailor Ploughboy
Soldier, Sailor, Tinker, Tailor, Hillbilly
Waiting to hear the sound
waiting to hear that

In the lower part of the picture, the elf with his back to the picture is holding an axe and preparing to chop nuts. He is waiting for the elder's instructions, and the surrounding elves and fairies are expecting the loud noise he chops down.

The characters in the picture represent an English folk game - "Soldier, Sailor, Tinker, Tailor, Ploughboy, Apothecary, Thief". So Freddie's lyrics are to restore the game and indirectly describe the elves in the painting.

11, /I Want ToBreak Free/

Do you think transvestites are the underground fringe that exists in overseas server forums, gay bars, and spooky castles?

Grayson Perry (GraysonPerry) tells you that firewalls limit your imagination. The President of the University of the Arts London (UAL) / Royal Academician / Turner Prize winner / Master of pottery / The most influential 100 people in British culture... These elite labels all converge on him.

Yet the label Perry is most proud of is "Claire"—the woman he becomes when he wears women's clothes. Not only did he proudly walk out on the street, dressed as Lolita for an interview, wore a bow and heavy makeup to guide Princess Kate, wore a pink lady's dress to attend the inauguration ceremony, and wore a princess dress to the collar." Turner Prize" and "City of London Freedom Award", and also dressed up to attend the Queen's Buckingham Palace Christmas dinner.

The principal perfectly explained:

I want to break free yeah
I want, I want, I want, I want to break free

.

Of course, transvestites also exist in rock band music videos.

.

.

The most brittle thing is that Grayson Perry's work and the scene in the MV seem to have some mysterious connection.

.

12, /Bohemian Rhapsody/

Matisse famously said: "It's not a woman, it's a painting."

Freddie should have said the same: "It's not a story, it's art."

So stop wrestling with the lyrical meaning of Bohemian Rhapsody, we just need to feel its gorgeousness, majesty, madness, drama, darkness, violence, sadness...and whatever word comes to your mind.

Apparently, the drawing of the pugnacious little devil Caravaggio is simply a tailor-made video for the song:

?

?

Recumbent Baptist
Is this real or a dream
I'm stuck in a landslide
can't escape reality
Open your eyes and stare at the sky
I'm just a poor boy, I don't need anyone's sympathy
Come easy and go fast, sometimes falling and sometimes pulling
Let the wind blow, I don't care, I don't care

St. John the Baptist beheaded (1608) + David carrying Goliath's head (1610)

Put the gun to his head, pull the trigger and he hangs up
Mom, my life has just begun
And now I'm completely destroyed

Salome and the Head of St. John (1609)
Mom, woo-
I didn't mean to make you cry
If I don't come back by this time tomorrow
you must go on living
as if nothing happened

?

The Death of Christ (1603)
It's too late, my deadline is up
My back is shaking and my whole body hurts
Goodbye everyone, I'm leaving
I have to leave you to face this bloody truth
Mom, woo-
i don't want to die
Sometimes I even wish I wasn't born at all

i see a shadow
Joker, Joker, can you dance the fandango
Thunder and lightning, I shiver

The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew (1600)
Do you think you can throw stones at me and look down on me?
Do you think you can love me and let me fend for itself?

Stephen Zweig said in his book: In a nation, there is only one genius among millions of people; and in a history, millions of leisure seconds have passed before there is a "human star shining moment".

I don't know how many KIDS playing music in the world made a grassroots immigrant boy stand out and become our star.

May he shine for countless light years✨?

If you love QUEEN as much as I do, love their music, and have tears in your eyes?
