A day has passed, and it is still in the green fields in the spring breeze, leaning against a tree to rest as in the beginning of the movie. But the comrade-in-arms who likes to tell jokes has left, and he is the only one left at the moment. The photos of his family members are his only remaining beliefs: Come back to us...
In 1917, the story was simple. During the First World War, the two soldiers carried out the task of sending letters on the front line, conveying the order to stop the attack, in case the British army fell into the German trap, saving 1,600 lives.
There are not many magnificent war scenes, and many times there are only one or two people in the camera. But the melodious and slow long shots like poetry make you immersive and take you to the scene of the British and German battles of World War I. Muddy trenches, rotting corpses, ruined villages, hidden enemies. Every second was frightened, not knowing what was going to happen next. On one side is the battlefield of the breath of death, and on the other side is the flower field with bright spring. On one side is the night of war, and on the other side is the solemn and sacred church. On one side are the corpses of the river, and on the other side are the fallen flowers. Cruel and poignant.
Beneath the burning ruins, there is new life. And under the green hillsides, people who died in battles in other countries are buried. Hope is a dangerous thing, but it is beautiful.

It ends with Mendes paying tribute to his grandfather for the story he told us. So, we saw this story. In 119 minutes, we entered April 6, 1917, a very ordinary day on the battlefield of World War I. It was a bit depressing to watch, but I also saw the courage of an ordinary person.
