Summer

500 Days of Summer.

Another addicting movie to me. After watching it no less than four times in the dormitory, I went to the cinema to endure the terrible Hong Kong version subtitles and watched it again.

Fragmented Thoughts

The biggest illusion this film gives is that Tom is main character. It's true that he's the protagonist in his own story, but in Summer's story, he's really just a side character. After watching the film again after a while, my fascination with Joseph's lovable appearance slowly subsided, and I jumped out of the story itself and saw what the real thing was like. At first glance, I didn't understand it, largely because we only followed Tom's perspective to see the problem.

Is Coincidence a fate, or is it just a coincidence? It's all about personal interpretation. When coincidence makes a dream come true, it's fate. Everything else may just be probabilities. The meeting between Tom and Summer is fate in Tom's view, but Summer doesn't think so; and the person who meets in the snack bar is considered fate by Summer, sometimes it is a kind of miss between people. If you can meet a person and both believe that it is fate, that is the real fate. Fate has to be believed.

Some of Sister Tom's words are really good. For example, this sentence: Just 'cause some cute girl likes the same bizarre crap you do, that doesn't make her your soulmate. People are creatures who like to find meaning in meaninglessness. When he decided that Summer was the one, all the coincidences between them were meaningful. But in fact, how different can people be? Isn't it fate that Tom and Alison know each other?

Joseph dances really well~ He acts like a high school student. I like the way he wears a shirt, a vest and a thin tie, and he smiles shyly.

Tom: [repeating after her] You... like the Smiths?

Summer: [singing] To die by your side, such a heavenly way to die.

    [speaking]

Tom: [elevator stops, Summer leaves while Tom remains dumbfounded] Holy shit.
