"The Lost Wall" may be a difficult story for us, but it is also something we encounter every day. For the unique self under the exam-oriented education, the panic facing the passing away, the misunderstanding of love, and the helplessness of ourselves. ...Many problems can't be solved by thinking.
Some people say that Pink did what he didn't dare to do. I think there is nothing to dare to do, just like there is no amazing verse without the suffering of drifting and wandering, how can I want to overthrow everything without suffering enough. Pink's example is very extreme, but it is because of this extreme that we have enough feelings and shocks.
We all say that we all have a wall in our hearts, who doesn't? If, like Pink, we will only fall into pain, after such negative experiences are rejected by us, will we really be happy if we don't build walls? No one has an overview to say what is right. We can't help ourselves. Some people say that people are transformed by the day after tomorrow. Those who say this seem to have great wisdom, but in my opinion, some tragic fate is destined. As a mortal, we often cannot break free from the shackles of destiny. Although I don't believe much in fate. But in the context of our birth, we sometimes just have trouble with ourselves.
If possible, I would like to say that Pink is also an enviable person. People with great grief and pain must be different from ordinary people. They are not as good as finding their own way.
No matter how pessimistic people are, there are times when they want to find hope. The same is true for Pink. In the end, she still can't get rid of the shackles of her heart, struggling but sinking deeper and deeper. We have different degrees of sway at different times. If fate is over, you may be unable to swing back. There may be a weak maneuver, but after all, let go and give up.
Because of the limited number of words, only the explanations of some of my favorite and important fragments have been intercepted and put up.
1. When the Tigers Broke Free: Part I (When the Tigers Broke Free, Part I)
2. In the Flesh
"In the Flesh" has two meanings in this album. When this song appears in the movie, a girl knocks on the door, and then there is a scene of a group of people squeezing towards two doors locked with chains. Later, the chain was broken and thousands of young people rushed out. What this set of shots implies is obvious. The newborn child (Pink) is eager to feel the warmth and love in life, but there is a rational voice reminding him: "Life is not all joy and happiness as you imagine." As the lyrics say, if you want to know what life is and what is human nature, you must dare to face all the disguise around us. This song also hints at what happened to Pink later. The pain and loneliness hidden behind his eyes became a black humorous drama. At the end of the song, the sound of the plane and the cry "Throw it at them!" was deafening, and this plane was the one that dropped the bomb on the land of Anzio and killed Pink's father. From the light strobes, sound effects and movements, we can hear Pink screaming. This reminds people of Shakespeare’s famous play "Macbeth" (Macbeth), in which Macbeth compares life with acting: "Life is just a walking shadow, a poor performer/supporting and eroding him. The hour of the performance on stage/everything is over, this is just a myth/lunatic saying, full of resounding rage/meaning has ended."
3. The Thin Ice
4. Another brick in the wall, part one (Another Brick in the Wall, Part I)
It is the first song in the album to introduce the concept of "Magic Wall". "Mission wall" refers to the spiritual wall and the wall that blocks people from others. All people yearn to be able to communicate with others and be understood by others, but it is strange that all people build a protective wall for their hearts to prevent others from getting hurt by their lives. "Another Brick In the Wall" appears three times in the album, and it feels different each time. This first part is rather boring. It is about Pink recalling that his father had gone and flew across the ocean to fight. His father left him only memories, like old photos in an album. His father's death forced him to face the desolate reality, even though he did not want to do it. Pink started to build a wall for herself to prevent herself from getting hurt again. There is a gloomy scene in the movie: Pink and his mother are on the playground, and his mother lets him play by himself. The sensitive little Pink found that all the children had fathers by his side to play, so he walked to a father and asked him to carry himself on the swivel chair. When the man hugged him, the joy on Pink's face was obvious, because he found one. Father. But this happiness quickly disappeared, because the man took his child from the swivel chair and walked away. Pink followed him and tried to pull his hand, but he just told Pink to get out of the way and asked Pink where his father was. Disappointed Pink could only jump on a swing by herself and sway desperately. In fact, this is the first time Little Pink realizes that he has lost his father.
5. When the Tigers Broke Free (II) When the tiger broke through the cage (II)
6. Goodbye, Blue Sky
7. The Happiest Days Of Our Lives The Happiest Days Of Our Lives
This is a really ironic song, mainly about Pink's school life. It says that teachers will laugh at students by exposing their shortcomings. In the movie, Pink's teacher accidentally found him writing a poem in class (this poem is actually the lyrics of Pink Floye's "Money"), and he was punished to stand in front of the classroom and beat him viciously. But Pink just wants to express his uniqueness through poetry. When the teacher returned home, his wife forced him to swallow unswallowable meals. This is the scene where the teacher shot the student and the scene where the teacher's wife forced him to appear alternately. It is really "karma", and this is also the verification of Waters' "Circulation Theory".
8. Another Brick In the Wall (II) Another Brick In the Wall (II) "Another Brick In the Wall (II)
" is the most famous song on the album, which continues to tell about Pink's life when he was in school in the UK . Many people think that this song is Pink's attempt to overthrow the British education system, but that is not the case. What it emphasizes is that education cannot obliterate individuality. When the children sang "We don't need no education", they did not aim at the entire education system, but wanted to show that they do not need teachers to teach them how to think, do not need to be controlled by their thoughts, and do not want to commit crimes. Make a small mistake and be ridiculed. Education is not a product model. In the movie, all the students wear the same expressionless masks and walk towards a meat grinder at the same pace, neither turning their heads nor looking either side. There are hammers that keep beating in the machine, which looks uniform and powerful like an army. After passing through the meat grinder, all the children were squeezed out of their souls and flesh. From the other end of the meat grinder, a group of walking corpses came out. Because of the teacher's autocracy, Pink added another brick to the wall.
9. Mother
This is a song where little Pink talks with his mother. The beginning part of the song is Pink's view of war, and she also wants to know whether the world will accept his song or let him down. He asked his mother whether he should build a wall and whether he should run for president. Of course, I think the meaning of this question is not really to run for president, but it shows that Little Pink still has dreams and hopes. In Pink's mother's words, we can understand that she takes care of her child too much. For her, however, there are good reasons for this: she lost her husband due to the war, so she does not want her children to be harmed in any way. Her love for children is almost morbid. "Mom wants to make all your nightmares come true/Mom wants to put all fears on you". Unconsciously, Pink's mother added all her fear of war to the child, and then desperately protected him from harm. She promised to help him build the wall in fact to help him escape reality. In fact, she is a brick on Pink's wall. In the second conversation, Pink asked his mother whether his girlfriend (wife) was good enough for him, whether it was dangerous to him, whether to control him, and whether it would break his heart. In the mother’s answer, we once again appreciate her morbid state: help you choose all your girlfriends, and don’t let anyone “dirty” you. She will always wait for the only son to come home, and will always be her “Baby blue” . The last question is that Pink is worried. If the wall is built too high, then he will never come back. In the movie, there are several descriptions of pink's life after marriage. The relationship between the husband and wife is very indifferent. This is also a foreshadowing for the future breakup of the two.
10. What Shall We Do Now? What should we do now?
This song only appears in the movie, it is a song about society. Pink asks this question: How do we accept materialism in daily life? How can we prevent our mental breakdown? The last sentence is particularly wonderful: We are leaning against the wall, but we never rest. We don't want to find a new way out, or save ourselves to care about others. We are just leaning against the wall, we only care about ourselves.
11.Empty Spaces remaining space
Although Pink's relationship with his wife was not good, he still became unhappy when he discovered that his wife had an affair. In this song, Pink asks his wife what they should do. The most important thing is the last sentence: "How can I finish building the wall?" It shows that Pink's wall is almost finished. Once the wall is completed, Pink will be completely isolated from the real world. The "remaining space" refers to the small holes in the wall that Pink needs to fill.
12. Young lust.
13. One Of My Turns
. When this song sounded in one of my transition movies, Pink was sitting in a chair watching an old war movie, which might remind him of his father. At the beginning of the song, the melody is very simple and soft. Pink asked his wife: why their love is dying and why their relationship has become so indifferent. Pink discovered how difficult it is to love someone for a long time in today's society, because everyone is afraid of being hurt. Pink mentioned his loneliness and the pressure that society puts on him. The "tourniquet" in it implies that he has started taking certain medicines. Soon after, the singing was no longer so simple and soft, and Pink became angry and asked the woman next to him "whether he wants to watch TV" or something like that. His anger suddenly erupted like a volcano, and it was not the first time he lost control of his emotions. As the lyrics said: "This is just a transitional stage. It is one of my saddest days." It seems that Pink is on the verge of collapse. It has been in the state for a long time, but the girl next to him still can't understand him at all. The old war movie that Pink is watching is called "The Dambusters", an autobiographical film by the scientist Barnes Wallis who invented a new type of bomb. In the film, the new bombs bloomed all over Germany, all the factories were flooded, and all the walls were blown up. So you can also understand it as Pink wants some bombs to blow up the walls of people's hearts.
14. Don't Leave Me Now, please don't leave me now
"Please don't leave me now" Pink said to his unfaithful wife. He tried his best to help her recall the happy time between the two of them in the past-"Do you still remember the flowers I gave you, I need your dear", but he also used "twisted to pieces" and "beaten immobile" to express Inner anger. We can feel from this song that the relationship between the two is indeed on the verge of collapse, which also makes Pink confused and lost. The relationship between the two has developed to such a point that Pink's wife seeks new spiritual comfort, and her fault is not all. The two broke up because Pink kept adding bricks to his wall.
15. Another Brick in the Wall (III ) another brick in the wall (Part III)
I do not need to be holding people in my arms
and I do not need drugs to numb myself
I have seen the writing on the wall
Do not think I need any things
anyway it's just a brick wall
anyway you are just a brick wall
I like the third part of "another brick in the wall," the most. The song contains a variety of emotional factors such as anger, fear, and anxiety. Just a few lines of lyrics capture the essence of most songs in the album. In this song, Pink rejects the world, expressing his unwillingness to accept any help from anyone, because he recognizes the cruelty of the real world. He "has seen the writing on the wall". This implies that Pink's spiritual wall has been built, and all the bricks are in place. In the movie, Pink's life is entangled with carnival and trouble. Life is essentially the same as chaotic carnival; that is, we cannot manipulate it with our own hands.
16. Goodbye Cruel World Goodbye, cruel world
Goodbye, cruel world
I'm leaving you today
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, all people
no matter what you say
I will not change your mind
Goodbye
Although from the perspective of the lyrics, Pink wanted to commit suicide, the actual song's connotation is not. Pink didn't leave the world by death, he just wanted to hide behind the wall of confusion. At the end of the last "goodbye", the whole song is over, not to the corresponding "Outside The Wall" (outside the wall), the lyrics part is over, but the music is still going on. This actually shows Pink's determination to leave the people around him. "Goodbye, cruel world" is a wonderful summary of the first half of the album and the movie. In the movie, we can see Pink is looking for a crack in its huge mental puzzle wall.
16. Hey You Hey, you
Pink thinks that someone can help him is purely an illusion, because his wall is too high and too strong; he can't go out, and no one can walk in. "No matter how hard he tries, he will not be able to regain his freedom." Despite his efforts, Pink could not free himself from behind the wall. "A group of maggots are feeding on his brain." This phrase can explain the metaphor of "maggots". "Maggots" can be explained in two ways in the traditional sense. The first explanation is "death", but it is not suitable for use here. The second explanation is "knowledge", which is Waters' original intention. The knowledge Pink accumulated in his early life led him to build walls. But once he hid behind the lost wall, he found that life was not as easy as he thought. The maggot that swallowed his brain cells was knowledge from the real world; although it made people fortified in reality, it was also cruel, because while he separated danger, he also separated all the good mistakes in the real world. After the "Voice of Reality" ended, Pink began to sing again, but he no longer asked people to "feel" or "comfort" him, but instead asked people to "help" him. In the last sentence, "We will win if we are together, and we will lose if we are apart." Pink realized the mistake of building such a high wall. He realized that he had to admit that sometimes people needed each other, and he would definitely lose to this cruel world.
17. Is There Anybody Out There? Is there anyone outside the wall?
Pink has been hitting the wall fiercely, hoping to get free, but as he sings in "Hey You": "This is just a fantasy. As you can see, the wall has been built too high, no matter how hard he tries. I can't get rid of..." After the four depressive "Is there anybody out there?", a piece of music played with a wooden guitar sounded, and there were occasional violin and piano sounds interspersed. I think this is the most exciting section of The Wall, and it is also a worthy record in the history of rock music. From this, we can feel that what Pink really needs is not to tear down his spiritual wall, but to live a normal and peaceful life. Readers must still remember the crazy mental state that Pink showed in the song "Don't Leave Me Now". In fact, he is very fragile and painful. In fact, living a peaceful and ordinary life is what everyone desires deep in their hearts. With age, this desire will become stronger and stronger.
18. Nobody Home Nobody Home
In a sense, it describes an incredible fact: a man who seems to have everything but has nothing. Pink is a "star". His status as a "star" has given him wealth and strength, but it also brought him too much pressure, which made him have to use sex and drugs to numb himself. He has all of this, but he realizes that all of it is actually meaningless to him. So he began to shrink back and pursue a kind of pure love that was possible only when he was a child. This kind of love rejects the interference of the material world and the desire to possess. It is a pure and selfless emotional sacrifice. "Nobody Home" is actually a metaphor, implying that Pink has lost the opportunity to enjoy family happiness.
19. Vera
20. Bringing the Boys Back Home
21. Comfortably Numb
Pink, who was hallucinated by medicine, was sleeping soundly in the hotel. His boss and some partners found him, hoping that he could continue his concert. The first few sentences sung by Roger Waters may sound like the voice of the Pink boss or the doctor, but they are more like a doctor. The doctor is trying his best to wake Pink and get him to walk around. So he asked Pink to see if he could understand him: "Hey, is there anyone in there/nod if you can hear me/Is anyone home?" As a response, this time he asked "Is anyone home?" In the previous song, Pink once sang: "Is anyone out there?" The doctor then asked Pink where he was injured so that he could heal Pink's wound. At this time, "Pink" began to speak, saying that he didn't feel any pain, and he couldn't hear the doctor's voice clearly. Pink was lost in her childhood memories: "The ship is smoking on the horizon in the distance." The doctor's voice seemed to be coming on a wave. Pink saw the doctor's lips move, but couldn't hear him clearly. Something. Then Pink fell completely into the memories of his childhood. He said that he had a high fever when he was a child. This has already appeared in the movie version of "Mother": "Am I really dying?" He then described the symptoms: "My hands are swollen like two balloons. "Pink's spirit is suffering from the same pain now, but the doctor can't understand it. "I am in comfortable numbness." Pink felt numb to the pain, numb to the painful memory, and numb to the world around him. He used his mental wall to keep himself in this "comfortable numbness" state.
23. The Show Must Go On performance must continue to
perform" here is a metaphor for Pink’s life.
24. In The Flesh is in the matrix
It reflects how people follow idols blindly and stupidly, and how idols abuse their appeal. In the song, Pink tells his audience: "Pink is not good at all. He stays in the hotel room." In other words, the old Pink has gone, and the young Pink who is hiding behind the wall has become an arbitrary person. . In order to verify the "loyalty" of fans to him, Pink ordered people to push all the people he disliked to the wall. The original meaning of this song is just to satirize those who blindly worship idols, and it also implies self-deprecating. Pink was originally a child who hated war, but he turned into a Hitler-style dogmat in this song, and it was apparent that Waters was mocking and lashing at it. We know that Pink's father died on the battlefield, his wife abandoned him, and finally he found a quiet place to concentrate on creating, but the people around him forced him to perform. Pink's anger had nowhere to vent, so he angered the audience and said something crazy and contrary to his own intentions. This was unexpected and reasonable.
25. Run Like Hell running desperately.
This is Pink warning those who don't want to follow him. He said: "You'd better disguise yourself in the way you are best at". People had better follow him, at least pretend to be following him, or they had to run away quickly, because otherwise they would be "packed in a box" and sent back to their mother.
26. Waiting for the Worms.
27. Stop stops
Pink and puts down his grand bullying air. He begins to realize what kind of person he has become. He said he wanted to go home, wanted to leave the show; he wanted to end his life. The reason why Pink has not committed suicide and stayed in the cell he built is because he wants to find out if he is a sinner: he has built his own wall, is insensitive to people and things around him, and becomes a dictator. He wondered if he was the only one to be blamed. It seems that Pink began to gradually regain some humanity at this time.
28, The Trial
This song is always memorable. Because of his fault, Pink was finally pushed to court. The first witness to be reported was Pink's principal. He admitted that perhaps he had spiritually devastated Pink, causing "his soul to bleed." He finally said that to this day he still wants to hit Pink with a hammer. Then Pink sang nervously again: "Crazy, I am a toy in the attic." The next witness to be reported was Pink's wife. She accused Pink's actions that led to the failure of their marriage. "You should communicate with me more, but you didn't. You insisted on walking your own way, but ruined your home." Like his principal, his wife finally wanted to retaliate against Pink. The last witness to be reported was Pink's mother. Until the day of the trial, she still showed her overly caring for Pink, "But I never wanted him to get into trouble, why did he leave me?" She finally asked the judge to let her Drive Pink home. Pink was singing nervously again at this moment. The judge finally spoke. He said that he had never seen a person more worthy of punishment than Pink, and he could not stand Pink treating his mother and his wife so badly, even though I thought Pink's mother should be more detained than Pink. Into the lunatic asylum. And the result of the trial: Pink can no longer hide behind his wall, he must break this wall himself, which means that he can no longer enjoy the "comfortable numbness". This trial has both a positive and a bad side for Pink. On the positive side, Pink can live a normal life without a wall, but what’s worse is that without the protection of this spiritual wall, he will become very fragile, and he has never been fully prepared to go. Face this cruel world. Throughout the trial, Pink felt that she was a toy sister who was accused of making mistakes one after another, but was unable to defend herself.
29. Outside the Wall
"Outside the Wall" is not so much about Pink as it is about people who build spiritual walls for themselves as a whole. "Those who really love you" are walking outside the wall, hoping to get in touch with those trapped inside the wall. Just as Pink's wife tried to communicate with him many times and failed to find a new direction outside of marriage. I was very impressed by a plot in the movie: the children gathered together to collect the stones that fell from the ruins of the wall and put them in a toy truck. When I saw this scene, I always felt confused: Are the children going to discard these bricks or do they want to collect them to build their own walls?
