At the beginning of the film, the black slave girl (only expressing the content of the film, without any racial discrimination) is so depressed and depressed to meet normal physiological needs, which is in great contrast to the intimate and relaxed living state of the subsequent male protagonist and his wife. In fact, when I didn't watch the full movie, I thought it was about the living conditions and psychology of black slaves. This is true, but what strikes me a lot is that the male protagonist was originally a freelancer and lived a very stable life. He was a violinist. Such a character background and the subsequent enslaved life form a very big contrast, which makes me as an audience feel ups and downs, and the sense of oppression is suffocating. Originally, he was respected as a violinist with financial ability and a happy family, but after being abducted and sold as a black slave, he was treated as personal property and could not have self-consciousness (otherwise he would be whipped or even killed)
Many of the plots tell the reality of the black people under the slave system, and also reflect the ugliness and weakness of human nature. Among them, the overseer (American) in Mr. Fu's house became jealous and denied because he found out that the male protagonist was smarter and more knowledgeable than himself. In order to regain the upper hand, he wanted to suppress and control him, but the male protagonist had a huge conflict with him because of his resistance. This is also the interesting part of this movie. I feel that it is a blessing in disguise that this male protagonist is so lucky to be bought by a kind American man. And stories and real life always give you a head start.
In a certain plan to rescue himself, the male protagonist asked the overseer (USA) to send a letter for him, but the overseer took the money and betrayed him. From my point of view, I thought the male protagonist would no longer trust others. But this is the strong will and charisma of the male protagonist. He can adjust his state at any time according to the situation, not be paralyzed by the status quo, and plan until he completes the goal. This is a great contrast from before him and the black woman who left her child in tears all day long. Such a strong mentality supported him to endure for twelve years and regain his freedom.
I recommend everyone to watch it, because when watching the movie, it is the understanding of human nature and the torture of the soul.
