To kill Voldemort. First of all, there must be a strong attack, and then there must be the Deathly Hallows. Both Dumbledore and Snape clearly knew that all three were in their hands. They could absolutely destroy all the Horcruxes first and then kill Harry Potter (the last Horcrux). Then use the Deathly Hallows to destroy Voldemort. These guys went around in circles and took their own lives. (Haha, I'm too cruel)
