LOOPER from LOOP's point of view

Laverne 2022-04-22 07:01:02

The so-called Looper refers to a killer who specializes in killing people from the future. In the future world, for various reasons, the underworld sends people who need to be "handled" to the past, and let the ring messenger kill these people from the future, erasing the existence of this person from the source.

Sealing ring: The ring messenger cannot live to that time in the future, because if there is an old LOOPER, the secret of the patron is in danger of being leaked. Therefore, once the contract expires, the ring messenger must kill himself from the future, which is called "ring seal". After the ring is sealed, the ring messenger can get a lot of gold nuggets as compensation for early death, and after that, the determined 30 years are intoxicated.

Loss of the ring: The failure to seal the ring is the "loss of the ring", and the ring that should have been closed is broken. Two identical entities (the past and the future) appear in the same world. At this time, the LOOPER organization will mobilize other people to intervene to solve the missing killer (the past and the future will be killed).

Time travel movies can often be explained in a variety of perspectives, parallel universes, butterfly effect and causality, etc. On closer inspection, the film is obviously untenable from the point of view of a parallel universe.

First of all, let's talk about the experience of the protagonist's friend Seth at the beginning of the film. In the world A where the story takes place, he met the old Seth from the future and let him escape, that is, the little Seth lost the ring; the problem is that the old Seth is from the world B, because if the ring is lost, the old Seth cannot be teleported back, That is to say, in World B, the small Seth should have successfully sealed the ring. Then according to the theory of parallel universes, the universes cannot interfere with each other. The engraving and dismemberment of the little Seth in World A will not affect the old Seth from World B, but it is actually affected in the film. This is the first paradox.

Then there is the protagonist 囧, in the same way, the ring is lost in world A, and the ring is sealed in world B. So the old 囧 after sealing the ring in world B wants to change the young 囧 of world A, which is another paradox according to the rules of the parallel universe. Not to mention the butterfly effect, even the explanation of the parallel universe is so chaotic that it cannot stand up to scrutiny, and it is expected that the two will play together = =

But as mentioned at the beginning of the next, whether the parallel universe or the butterfly effect is just an angle . I have never been afraid to make guesses in a good direction, so I feel that it is relatively reasonable to look at the whole story with a simple procedural model like LOOP, otherwise I will jump into the pit of the time travel paradox, and I will not be able to explain it.

LOOP is a loop keyword in programming languages. In some cases, after starting the loop, LOOP several times until a certain condition is met to break or exit the LOOP, thereby terminating the loop. The "several times" may be one time or multiple times. But if it is infinite, then it is an infinite loop and becomes a closed loop. Just like the successful sealing of the loop in the film, the past self keeps killing the future self, repeating the same procedure over and over again, forming a "closed loop". the ring".

The story line of "The Ring Messenger" happens to describe the time trajectory of breaking this LOOP. In the next opinion, each crossing cannot be regarded as an infinite loop. In fact, only two LOOPs (note that they are different LOOPs) happened to Jon, and both times were broken. In the first LOOP, Xiao 囧 killed Lao 囧, and after enjoying the prosperity, he was teleported back to the past to be killed by himself, but this cycle was broken at the end of the first LOOP because Lao 囧 was determined to avenge his wife. This leads to a different LOOP, which is the main storyline. In this LOOP, Xiao 囧 lost the ring, and Lao 囧 chased and killed RAINMAKER when he was a child. Xiaojong also realized at the end that if he let Laojong kill RAINMAKER's mother, causing the child to turn black into RAINMAKER, this would cause Laojong to travel back and take revenge, thus forming a never-ending circle. In order to get out of this cycle, Xiaojong's only way is to die to thank the world (the damn gun doesn't have enough range). So the ending is that Xiaojong committed suicide, which led to the termination of this LOOP. As for whether RAINMAKER will take the right path under the influence of his mother's positive energy (so embarrassing), this leaves a suspense.

Of course, this LOOP theory has a fatal flaw: what caused the loop that should have been infinitely reincarnated to be broken?

——If you insist, it can only be attributed to the erratic factors of the human heart and the unstable factors of LOOP itself?

Finally.

About the ending: At the end of the film, Cid (that is, RAINMAKER when he was a child) almost ran away and killed Sara and the old man in the cornfield (translation is sugarcane field, but the original text should be cornfield), but in Sara's role (= = |||) and finally returned to calm, which can be regarded as giving people some hope, indicating that Cid, such a defiant child, still has the possibility of change, and Sara's influence on him cannot be ignored. Maybe he can grow up healthily under her protection, and finally be able to control his TK ability. (What a surprise, I have always had a negative attitude towards this kind of thing below)

About Sara: She was not a good mother when she was young, and she abandoned her child Cid to her sister to raise because of the desire for a good life in the city. Even in the middle of the film, I still think that this woman is purely self-inflicted. She thinks that if she doesn't tell the child, it is for his own good, and she wants to control his mind. Because she is a child, she doesn't understand anything? ——In fact, children know a lot of things, just don’t say it. I'm sorry, I always assume the role of a child unconsciously in this kind of thing, probably because I'm not a mother yet, so I can't experience that kind of love~
But the kind of tolerance Sara showed towards Cid at the end let me treat her There has been an improvement. How many mothers can come forward to hug him deeply and give him a strong trust after witnessing the brutal murder of their child?

About RAINMAKER: I'm very curious about this kid's life experience. His mother Sara is obviously very capable of TK, but it's not so powerful that it can blow people up. So his father's TK ability should not be bad, maybe in the future the director can make a prequel to explain his father's mother's romance clearly? (laughs~)

About the details: Perhaps due to the deletion of the mainland version, there are many details that I only slowly figured out later. For example, Jon's drug addiction, in the film, only the old Jon & the little Jon explicitly mention the drug addiction when they order food face to face in the restaurant. blablah". In addition, it is said that eye drops are in the form of taking drugs, but we ordinary people are too simple to understand. = But just relying on these two points, it is still a little difficult to connect with the flashbacks of the old 囧 lying in Xu Qing's arms and twitching. Another example is that the dancer who talks to Jon at the beginning of the film is the mother of the second child that Jon is going to kill, so Jon was so shocked when he saw her. I thought that I was going to kill the children of the woman I once liked, so...

summarize: The story structure of this film is not bad, but the plot is too vague, and the logic can not stand scrutiny, so the science fiction film The posture was instantly disillusioned. But to be honest, most movies/games about time travel have a lot of bugs. This is just an ordinary movie. It is better not to take a too serious attitude to correct mistakes~

Looper quotes

  • Older Joe: This is a piece of indentifying information on the Rainmaker. He's here. He lives here now. In this county. And I'm gonna use this to find him. And I'm gonna kill him. I'm gonna stop him from killing my wife.

Joe: Fuck you. And your wife. None of this concerns me.

Older Joe: This is gonna happen...

Joe: It happened to you. It doesn't have to happen to me. You got a picture right there in my watch? Let me see. Show me the picture. As soon as I see her, I walk away. I'll fucking marry someone else. Promise. So when I see that picture, that fog inside your brain should just swallow up all the memories, right? She'll be gone. If you give her up, she'll be safe.

    Older Joe: Give her up?

Joe: Yeah, give her up. You're the one who got her killed. She never meets you, she's safe.

Older Joe: You don't understand. We don't have to give her up. I'm not gonna give her up. I'm gonna save her.

  • Joe: There's a reason we're called loopers. When we sign up for this job, taking out the future's garbage, we also agree to a very specific proviso. Time travel in the future is so illegal, that when our employers want to close our contracts, they'll also want to erase any trace of their relationship with us ever existing. So if we're still alive 30 years from now, they'll find our older self, zap him back to us, and we'll kill him like any other job. This is called closing your loop. Eh, you get a golden payday, you get a handshake, and you get released from your contract. Enjoy the next 30 years. This job doesn't tend to attract the most forward-thinking people.
