Happy to know the fate, so worry-free

There is such a story in Liezi Zhongni: It is
said that when Confucius was staying at home, Zigong went to see him and found his teacher looked worried. Zigong did not dare to speak, so he told Yan Hui when he came back.
When Yan Hui heard this, he ran to the door of Confucius' house and played the piano. When Confucius heard this, he couldn't stand the loneliness and ran out and asked Yan Hui, "Why are you so happy alone?"
When Yan Hui saw that the teacher was "abducted" by himself, he was very proud, so he asked back: Teacher, why are you so unhappy by yourself?
Confucius was very embarrassed when he heard it, so he had to betray the old man and said: I asked first, so you have to speak first.
Yan Hui had no choice but to answer: I heard from you before that "I am happy to know my destiny, so I have no worries." Now that I am happy, how can I be unhappy?
Confucius felt even more embarrassed when he heard this, so he could only sigh and say: Did I say that? You misunderstood. That's what I said before, when I was too young to say anything. What I tell you today counts. You only know that you can be worry-free if you are happy with your destiny, but you don’t know that it is actually even more unpleasant to be happy. In fact, it is like this: cultivate yourself, let your fate change, understand that changes in the world are beyond my ability to change, and you will not disturb your thoughts. This is your so-called blissful and worry-free truth. However, when I was cultivating poetry and books and reforming rituals and music, I originally wanted to govern the world and benefit future generations. Unexpectedly, the rulers and ministers of the state of Lu became more and more chaotic, and they did not talk about benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom. The policies I implement can’t even be handled by a country, let alone promoted in the world in the future~~I only know until now that in troubled times, poetry, books, rituals and music are useless, and I don’t know how reforms are useful. That's what the optimists worry about. Despite this, I still realized one thing: when we talk about being happy and knowing one’s destiny, we think that we know the destiny and are willing to accept it, but it is not what the ancients said. True optimism is when there is nothing to be happy about, nothing to know, nothing to worry about, and nothing to do. Those poems, books, rituals and music are gone, so what can be reformed?
Yan Hui was very touched when he heard it, and after thanking the teacher, he relayed the words to Zi Gong. Zigong was at a loss when he heard this. I went home without eating or drinking for seven days, sitting and meditating, and I was finally hungry. Yan came back to persuade him, only to come back, after that, Xiange recited until his death.
Cooper is actually such a movie.
Old Joe and his Chinese wife are happy and happy, and they are so-called happy; they are sent back from the future to know what is about to happen, the so-called fate. However, old Joe has too many things that he can't let go, just like Confucius can't stand the collapse of rituals, and he can't stand the big killing of all Cooper by the Rainmaker. Confucius' method is to promote poetry, books, rituals and music, while old Joe's method is to kill all the children who may grow up to become Rainmakers in the future. The Dao of Confucius was ultimately unsuccessful, and old Joe's plan was not realized.
When Confucius lamented that rituals and music were unsatisfactory, life was inactive, and it was a great worry to be optimistic about one’s fate, would old Comrade Joe also think, if he didn’t know so much about the future, or could he really be optimistic about his fate?
Little Joe, who has no idea about the future, knows nothing about the future, and even thinks that he doesn't need to live for 30 more years. The so-called ignorance without joy is the true knowledge of true joy. So the little Joe lived in the ignorance of his destiny, while the old Joe lived in the unremitting struggle with fate. The lucky little Joe was actually in a state of worry-free, while the old Joe was even more worried when he was accidentally turned into a happy-go-lucky.
So old Joe persevered in order to keep his wife, and only wanted to achieve the goal. And little Joe just let things go. In order to achieve his goal, old Joe adopted the policy of "I would rather kill three thousand by mistake than let one go". On the other hand, little Joe felt a little pity and couldn't bear to kill the Rainmaker's child who would kill him in a few years.
Old Joe's guiding ideology was to keep evil in the bud, so he was bent on killing that little kid. Little Joe's guiding ideology is to use the influence of love to educate humanity, let kindness dominate more abilities, and let them benefit people.
Yi said: The first slander, and the third slander. Due to the difference in guiding ideology, the old Joe chose the strategy of "can't afford to lose", not only did not accept the reality, but also tried to change the past.
The ending is very good, old Joe not only did not kill Rainmaker, but also completely took his life into it...

Looper quotes

  • Older Joe: This is a piece of indentifying information on the Rainmaker. He's here. He lives here now. In this county. And I'm gonna use this to find him. And I'm gonna kill him. I'm gonna stop him from killing my wife.

Joe: Fuck you. And your wife. None of this concerns me.

Older Joe: This is gonna happen...

Joe: It happened to you. It doesn't have to happen to me. You got a picture right there in my watch? Let me see. Show me the picture. As soon as I see her, I walk away. I'll fucking marry someone else. Promise. So when I see that picture, that fog inside your brain should just swallow up all the memories, right? She'll be gone. If you give her up, she'll be safe.

    Older Joe: Give her up?

Joe: Yeah, give her up. You're the one who got her killed. She never meets you, she's safe.

Older Joe: You don't understand. We don't have to give her up. I'm not gonna give her up. I'm gonna save her.

  • Joe: There's a reason we're called loopers. When we sign up for this job, taking out the future's garbage, we also agree to a very specific proviso. Time travel in the future is so illegal, that when our employers want to close our contracts, they'll also want to erase any trace of their relationship with us ever existing. So if we're still alive 30 years from now, they'll find our older self, zap him back to us, and we'll kill him like any other job. This is called closing your loop. Eh, you get a golden payday, you get a handshake, and you get released from your contract. Enjoy the next 30 years. This job doesn't tend to attract the most forward-thinking people.
