Destiny's reincarnation

I always thought this film was a blockbuster with dazzling special effects. Then I heard that it was deleted for 8 minutes and I wondered why this kind of film should be deleted. Then I saw that the rating of this film was actually R! I always thought it was the level of PG-13 at most. .

But after watching it, I think this film should really be made R-rated instead of some secretive PG-13. From the very beginning of the film, even from the title of the film, you can feel the heavy black style black elements. The cold blood of the city's corrupt and depraved killers is not something that PG-13 can fully express. I am looking forward to the deleted 8 minutes. If there are those 8 minutes, the image of the characters will be fuller. But making it R-rated is not just showing off violence. Those are all things that are needed to style the film, and Ring Messenger does a good job of it.

In fact, I have always been interested in science fiction themes, but not all science fiction themes. Those sci-fi movies that show off futuristic technology don't appeal to me. And the kind of sci-fi that creates a new concept with a new core with a mysterious appeal is particularly interesting to me. For example, "Inception", "The Matrix" and this "Ring Messenger".

"Ring Messenger" is more rigorous in setting and script, and there are no loopholes and paradoxes that often appear in time-space shuttle movies. In terms of concept selection, "Ring Messenger" chose "grandmother paradox" instead of "parallel time and space", which also added drama to the plot. But I always feel that the part about TK in the setting is a bit deliberately designed to draw out the rain caller behind.

But there are two scenes in the film when Lao Bu travels back from the future to meet Ah Jon, and he didn't say what happened to the first meeting. Logically speaking, it is impossible for the director not to explain such a plot, so I think this part has been deleted, and we can only confirm it when the complete resources come out.

Regarding special effects, this is a medium-budget film with not many special effects, nor is it particularly magnificent. But the special effects of the film feel powerful when they are released at the right time. Well I admit that the slow motion plus bass effect is especially useful for me.

In terms of characterization, Willis also gradually integrates into a family affection for his long-awaited wife, A 囧, and occupies each character, which also makes the film have a core instead of becoming an empty shell showing off concepts and special effects.

Sometimes, as the Chinese say, everything is already doomed in the dark

, Ah Jon said at the end of the film,

"I saw some people kill for their wives, I saw some people die for their sons, but everything is a cycle of fate."

In short "Ring Messenger" is very appealing to me in terms of theme, concept and style. Like! Highly recommend!

Looper quotes

  • Older Joe: This is a piece of indentifying information on the Rainmaker. He's here. He lives here now. In this county. And I'm gonna use this to find him. And I'm gonna kill him. I'm gonna stop him from killing my wife.

Joe: Fuck you. And your wife. None of this concerns me.

Older Joe: This is gonna happen...

Joe: It happened to you. It doesn't have to happen to me. You got a picture right there in my watch? Let me see. Show me the picture. As soon as I see her, I walk away. I'll fucking marry someone else. Promise. So when I see that picture, that fog inside your brain should just swallow up all the memories, right? She'll be gone. If you give her up, she'll be safe.

    Older Joe: Give her up?

Joe: Yeah, give her up. You're the one who got her killed. She never meets you, she's safe.

Older Joe: You don't understand. We don't have to give her up. I'm not gonna give her up. I'm gonna save her.

  • Joe: There's a reason we're called loopers. When we sign up for this job, taking out the future's garbage, we also agree to a very specific proviso. Time travel in the future is so illegal, that when our employers want to close our contracts, they'll also want to erase any trace of their relationship with us ever existing. So if we're still alive 30 years from now, they'll find our older self, zap him back to us, and we'll kill him like any other job. This is called closing your loop. Eh, you get a golden payday, you get a handshake, and you get released from your contract. Enjoy the next 30 years. This job doesn't tend to attract the most forward-thinking people.
