After the police station killed the largest drug lord in Los Angeles, they led the team to clean up and rectify the heroin under their command, but 25 pounds of them were lost, and the task was handed over to the anti-drug team.

This is Jack. Because of the violent incidents in the police station, he was tempted by his superiors to identify the violent police for the benefit of participating in the show. After pretending to be demoted for a few months, now coming back and being assigned to the drug squad
Here's a hint that 25 pounds of heroin are missing

The 25 pounds was actually embezzled and hidden by the black policeman Dick, which is also the reason why the higher-level black policeman Dudley wanted to kill people. On the one hand, this person has his own black material in his hands, and on the other hand, Dick is greedy, worried that one day Dick's greed will betray him.

So Dudley slaughtered 15 people, including Dick and his girlfriend, in the tavern the night after Dick left, disguising the scene as a financial motive.

Dudley's plan is to be the person in charge of the case, guide the case in the direction of making money, and find three niggas as scapegoats to end it.

Ed is obsessed with performance, saying that he received the police, and the case is his
Dudley must not dare to let him investigate, so he reluctantly made him the second person in charge

Dudley originally wanted to cover the sky with his own hands, but since Ed was involved, he had to speed up the process to prevent Ed from taking the lead. So I arranged for my subordinates to plant things in the scapegoat's garage without any evidence, and then went upstairs to kill people, and the case was closed.

Dudley's men rushed up and threw the trigger, and was stopped by Ed and ordered the police not to be silenced.

After the black man was brought back, Ed's manipulation was as fierce as a tiger, and the black man was scared to pee (literally). During the inquiries, I learned that there was another girl who might be alive, so I rushed to save the person.

In fact, these black people committed rape, which had nothing to do with the 15 murders in the tavern, but black Ed didn't know at this time that they were talking about two things.

The police car went downstairs to rescue people, and Dudley only let Bud in, and ordered the others to stand by. Because Dudley knows that Dud has been with Dick for many years and is eager for revenge, and will definitely kill the people upstairs.

While the police were saving people, Dudley arranged for his subordinates to let the black man go, creating the illusion that the suspect was escaping, so that he could be killed on the way to chase the fugitive, so as to avoid Ed's interrogation and finding out that it was tricky.

Ed finds the hiding places of several fugitives, and the scene gets out of control for a while, and finally kills all the black people.

The tavern poisoning case ended, and Ed took the lead. This is also the ending Dudley wanted: three black people tried to kill for money and were eventually brought to justice, and police officer Dick had bad luck and became one of the victims.

L.A. Confidential quotes

  • Ed Exley: Rollo Tomasi.

Captain Dudley Smith: Who is he?

Ed Exley: You are. You're the guy who gets away with it. Jack knew it, and so do I.

  • Ed Exley: During our investigation of events surrounding the Nite Owl case, Jack Vincennes, Bud White, and I learned the following.

Ellis Loew: Your golden boy's throwing his whole life away.

Ed Exley: The three Nite Owl suspects, while guilty of kidnapping and rape, were innocent of the multiple homicides at the Nite Owl. The actual gunmen were most likely Los Angeles Police Department officers Michael Breuning and William Carlisle, and a third man who may or may not have been Captain Dudley Smith. The objective: the elimination of another police officer, Richard Stensland, who, along with former LAPD officer Leland "Buzz" Meeks, also committed multiple homicides on behalf of Captain Smith and then betrayed him over twenty-five pounds of heroin, the retrieval of which was the ultimate motivation behind the Nite Owl killings. Beginning with the incarceration of Mickey Cohen, Captain Smith has been assuming control of organized crime in the city of Los Angeles. This includes the assassinations of an unknown number of Mickey Cohen lieutenants, the systematic blackmail of city officials, and the murders of Susan Lefferts, Pierce Patchett, Sid Hudgens, and Sergeant Jack Vincennes. Captain Smith admitted as much to me before I shot him at the Victory Motel.
