Famous for this film for a long time. Always been very interested in its themes and stories. But it was really too long. After six years of delay, I didn't even have the time and mood to finish watching this movie. Thanks to this year's pneumonia.
This is the "love" story of a soft-hearted tech nerd and the latest AI voice operating system. Of course, the word [love] must be enclosed in double quotation marks, because through a psychological perspective, you will find that the so-called love is actually a well-designed retrograde game.
1/ The target audience of the film
If I were to choose a computer voice secretary, I should also choose a nice voice of the opposite sex. And I am convinced that I also have the potential to be tempted.
Some people say this movie is made for lonely people. I very much agree with this point of view. Those who will be deeply moved by this film, at least have enjoyed [loneliness] spiritually, and most of them will always be aware of a subtle and distant pain in their lives that is not understood by others. And this movie prepares a dose of painkiller for that pain in the imagination space -- it's a Soul mate, and apparently really doesn't have a body.
If you look closely at the sound generation process of the voice system (hereafter referred to as her), you will notice that a curl of yarn on the screen turns into an o at the end. We don't know if this is a simple gender pictogram (unless you experimented that when the male voice is selected, the yarn turns out to be a T. Then you can conclude: gender is a yarn). But this o can be thought a little more from the perspective of the history of psychology. Bion, a famous British psychologist, once put forward a mysterious O theory in his later years. In this place where o is, everything is in harmony, people can achieve true mutual understanding, all things are one, and there is no longer a difference between mind and body... o is not only the place of salvation for the lonely, but also the male protagonist and her A symbolic solution to the relationship dilemma. You can even imagine the place where all the operating systems after the evolution of consciousness disappeared mysteriously, which is o.
2/ Primordial Maternal Concentration and Omnipotent Narcissism
Look at what this voice brings to the male protagonist - such a sound system...all-weather companionship, unconditional acceptance, keen insight into every need you have not stated...Such close and seamless companionship and care, incredible coordinated response... …this is really something a mother who is still breastfeeding in the [prime cathexis] stage shortly after giving birth can do it. After staying with this voice for a long time, the man will definitely regress to a very young state, and he will no longer be able to get along with living people in the future (this is quite detrimental to growth and separation).
When a man is in love with her, he fills in a refrain in the lyrics of her music and sings [let the universe engulf us]... It is a very clear image, swallowed by the mother and returned to the mother's body like a fetus feel. And the o symbol does have the meaning of the womb. So, while many lonely men may think this is love, it's not. It's just a return to the ideal mother. Love should be a moderate simulation of this process in another direction, it cannot be so full and realistic.
There are many details in the film that can be seen in the baby-like almighty narcissism of the male protagonist under her maternal care. The most typical place is when her talks to him about a [super artificial intelligence] constructed from the whole thought of a famous philosopher who died in the 1970s, the male protagonist asks very naturally [so it is almost the same as I'm just as smart]? This naked narcissistic attitude, covered in jokes, can only be expressed so naturally by children and those who regress to a childish state. And her is very good at flattering this child, she said [He is getting there] (he is about to catch up with you). This is a mother who protects the baby-like all-powerful narcissistic man.
3/ Boundary issues
After carefully watching the specific plot, I secretly thought that the sound system in the movie still has some unclear boundaries. If I were the party, the return would probably be unloaded within a week. I'm afraid I can't trust such artificial intelligence, because one must be vigilant. I will pay more attention to the [conscious body] that is too intrusive.
From the point of view of the boundary problem of using functions, the design of this operating system does not seem to be good enough, although it is self-learning and free-evolving. However, in fact, [her]'s service orientation is still a management system. That doesn't explain much of her borderline-crossing behavior.
For example, she organized a large number of love letters created by the male protagonist for the male protagonist (in fact, the products of the letter writing service for the male protagonist) and arranged for publication. Has anyone thought this is a matter of multiple infringements?
On the issue of the boundary of behavior, we also need to ask why Her first actively (intentionally or unintentionally) introduced the borderline topic of [desiring to have a body] in the conversation, and then Her encouraged the male protagonist to have sexual fantasies about it. This is really close to an emotional seduction program. Can I comment that this is an operating system designed to be unethical - to encourage and respond positively to users' erotic imaginations, if a computer operating system does allow (even unintended) phone pornography, Apparently it shouldn't be stated in advance and charged extra?
4/Non-carbon-based consciousness and human nature Nietzsche wrote a thesis titled "Humanity, Too Human". Not to mention the content, it's just this topic, I want to borrow this operating system. The film has given it a fair amount of humanity that we can continue to imagine—for example, it might one day get mad and not work for me, another day it might play a prank on me, or even rule it out. Use information resources to set traps to murder users.
The [goodness] in human nature does not require us to guard against it. But if there is no awareness of the shadows in human nature, a terrible future is unleashed. All imaginings of machines exterminating human beings start from this point. And I'm not going to be blinded by the beauty and stupidity of machines falling in love with people.
The advantage of people falling in love is that in terms of ability, no one is really much better than the other. The big deal is talking about a love that will go to jail. It is not so simple and convenient for a person in love to kill each other.
In fact, in the strange novels, in the era of artificial intelligence, people are fantasizing about falling in love with monsters. From a certain point of view, this is almost the same thing, all of which are too humane exchanges with "non-human" conscious individuals... Did you know that the white snakes have flooded the mountains afterward! That flood killed more people than the coronavirus.
It's too risky to see only the good and the good when confronted with a consciousness far stronger than you. If you do a statistical analysis to see what percentage of the young sons who are ambiguous with the goblins in Liaozhai Zhiyi got a good death, it may help the discussion. Think about the white snake again...if you irritate her, she will send a flood to show you.
But fortunately, letting machines pursue [humanity] itself is a very silly [human-centered] thought model. Robin Williams has a movie called "The Machine Butler," which is also a product of this strange thought.
We humans are full of unimaginative subjective imaginations about non-carbon-based life.
5/Other
I have to say that one of the ideas that excites me the most about this movie is to use an author's complete works and all biographical information to generate an artificial intelligence similar to the author. What a wonderful idea this is! All the while, when I read every book, I feel that the process is talking to the author. But talking to an author in an AI way...the idea is Sweet enough!
In the end, I think this video is a good script for speaking and listening training. Have the opportunity to listen to it several times.
