love in lonely times

My biggest feeling after watching this movie is that it shows the (unique) loneliness of our human beings in contemporary society.

This loneliness manifests itself in many ways. Needless to say, the theme of the whole film is a love between humans and machines. It also includes the lonely scene of the protagonist playing video games. Even I think even the protagonist's profession can see this deep loneliness in the era: he is A letter writer who writes fictional but soulful letters. I'm thinking, isn't it the era when people's feelings are nowhere to be placed that we accept and need such works more?

There are also many hidden points that can be explored in "Her", which contains background information that is not directly expressed, allowing us to imagine that not too distant future: for example, the protagonist's holographic projection video game, said to be able to smoothly assist work Voice assistants, "advanced AI" that can develop their own thinking patterns, and more importantly: people can accept the love between humans and machines without hindrance. In the movie, Theodore's friend proposes a "picnic for four" with his girlfriend. I think this scene may seem a little strange to people today, but it felt very natural at the time. Full empathy for other people's emotions - I think such an inclusive environment may be desirable in the near future society.

From the loneliness and sensitivity of the male protagonist, I can see a part of myself. Presumably most people can see themselves in the film: whether it is the protagonist or one of the city's pedestrians, or the AI Tamantha. I wanted to express my emotions scatteredly here, but I found that I couldn't. Because there is no room for discussion - this kind of loneliness does not come by chance, but almost inevitable in urban life. After all, there is no way for people to keep acompanied every second. The city is like a deep well with smooth walls, and the heart is like a vine that has nowhere to cling to. We long for a collision of mind or body, but there are limits to what we can do, and true love or a close friend is not something that can be taken out of a four-dimensional pocket at will. This sounds like a pity, but in fact it is a sure thing. I think this can be a guide for each of us when facing loneliness: whether it is reward or punishment, loneliness is just a state, as long as I have done what I should do in this state, even if I have lived hard with a clear conscience .

More than once, the film focuses on complete strangers in the city, which I think is a plus for the film. The male protagonist said that he often observes the pedestrians on the street, observes their appearance, imagines their lives and their love. He was alone when he said this, but his life seemed to come alive again because of his imagination. The film itself mainly depicts the lonely individuals in the city, but due to the observation of the male protagonist, there is a certain connection between so many lonely individuals, so that the content of the film is no longer limited to the male protagonist, but expanded to the city. Any individual in it - they have their own lives, their own love and hate, and their own loneliness.

Her quotes

  • Alien Child: I hate women. All they do is cry all the time.

Theodore: That's not true. You know men cry too. I actually like crying sometimes. It feels good.

Alien Child: I didn't know you were a little pussy. Is that why you don't have a girlfriend? I'm going out on that date and fuck her brains out and show you how it's done. You can watch and cry.

Samantha: Okay, this kid has problems.

Alien Child: You have some fucking problems, lady.

Samantha: Really? Okay, I'm gonna go.

Alien Child: Get out of here, fatty!

  • Theodore: I wish you were in this room with me right now. I wish I could put my arms around you. I wish I could touch you.

Samantha: How would you touch me?

Theodore: I would touch you on your face with just the tips of my fingers. And put my cheek against your cheek.

    Samantha: That's nice.

Theodore: And just rub it softly.

    Samantha: Would you kiss me?

Theodore: I would. I'd take your head into my hands. And kiss the corner of your mouth. So softly. I would put my mouth on you and I'd taste you.
